Alex McMillan has been in the fitness industry for
15 years and is an international presenter and lecturer to fitness
leaders and populations throughout Canada, New Zealand, Australia,
England, and the U.S.A. He holds the prestigious IDEA Elite Personal
Trainer status and is a certified personal trainer through both
the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and the American Counsel
on Exercise. Recently Alex along with his wife and business partner
Sherri McMillan was awarded with one of the highest honors in
the fitness industry, the 2006 IDEA International Program Director
of the Year Award. Alex is currently a fitness columnist for
numerous local, national and international magazines, newspapers
and publications and has just recently been contracted as the
co-author of the weekly fitness column in the Oregonian the leading
newspaper publication in Oregon and SW Washington. He is the
owner, president and Co-Founder of Northwest Personal Training
and Fitness Education with locations in both Portland, Oregon
and Vancouver, Washington. Under Alex’s direction Northwest
Personal Training has won various awards including The 2006 Better
Business Bureaus Business of the Year Award, the Fastest Growing
Business in Clark County 2005, News Channel 8’s Portland’s
cleanest health club status for 2006, Portland City Search’s
Portland’s Best Health Clubs for 2006 and Portland’s
Best Personal Training Studios for 2006. Alex is an industry
known fitness consultant that helps direct the fitness systems
and leadership programming for many health and athletic clubs
throughout the US including Portland’s prestigious MAC Club,
The Bellevue Athletic Club, and the Cascade Athletic Clubs.
Sherri McMillan, MS, with her husband, Alex McMillan,
is the co-owner of Northwest Personal Training & Fitness
Education in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon. She
has been honored numerous times for her professional achievements,
including being named the 2006 IDEA Program Director of the Year,
the 1998 IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year, the 1998 Can-Fit-Pro
Canadian Fitness Presenter of the Year, the 2005/2006 ACE Fitness
Educator of the Year–runner-up, and the 2005 IDEA Fitness
Director of the Year–top-three finalist. She has been in
the fitness industry for over 18 years and has presented hundreds
of workshops to thousands of fitness leaders around the world,
including at the prestigious IDEA and IHRSA conferences. She
is the author of five fitness books and manuals (Go for Fit—The
Winning Way to Fat Loss; Fit Over Forty—The Winning Way
to Lifetime Fitness; The Successful Trainer’s Guide to Marketing;
Hiring and Training Master Trainers; and The Business of Personal
Training). She is a Nike-, Fitterfirst-, SPRI-, Nautilus-, and
PowerBar®-sponsored fitness athlete and a fitness columnist
for various newspapers, magazines, and journals throughout the
