Genetic factors influence how people are at the present time and how they respond to external stimuli or changes in their environment (for example, exercise training). The Influence of Genetics on Exercise and Training provides a basic introduction to the field of genetics and how it applies to exercise and training. It summarizes some of the findings of a large-scale study (The HERITAGE Family Study) on the effects of genetic factors and exercise training on fitness and risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
