The
PC-Kits Network Edition (Vista Compatible) has the same functionality
as the PC-Kits: Desktop Edition but
is installed on a network allowing multiple computers access
to the same data. The network edition can be installed in client-server,
peer-to-peer and terminal server configurations.
The network edition is licensed by the number of simultaneous
users, not by the number of installations. It can be installed
on as many machines as you like without any additional fees.
Network pricing is based on the number of simultaneous users
and the number of collections. Discounts can range from 10% -
50% off the desktop edition price.
Please use our online price
quote calculator for a network edition price quote from 1
to 10 concurrent users. For a price quote greater than 10 concurrent
users, please e-mail us at . Please

System Requirements for Client-Server
Installation
Server:
The server must be running Windows 98/ME or Windows NT 4.0
(SP6)/2000/XP/2003.
The server must have between 200-500 MB of free hard drive
space depending on what components are installed.
A Pentium 200 MHz or faster is required, 400 MHz is recommended.
A minimum of 64 MB of RAM is required, 256 MB is recommended.
It is recommended that this machine be backed up on a regular
basis, to protect your database from being lost in a system crash.
If your network is connected to the Internet, it is highly
recommended that this machine be behind a firewall or proxy server
for security reasons.
Workstations:
The workstation must be running Windows 98/ME or Windows
NT 4.0 (SP6)/2000/XP with Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack
2 (or newer) installed.
The workstation must have between 50MB and 500MB of free
hard drive space (depending on how many kits you've purchased).
A Pentium 166 MHz or faster is required, 266 MHz is recommended.
A minimum of 32 MB of RAM is required, 64 MB is recommended.
NOTE: The above workstation requirements do not necessarily
apply when installing VHI PC-Kits in a Citrix/Terminal Server
environment or when the workstations are installed to Run
from Server (such as the case with a diskless workstation).
System Requirements for Peer-to-Peer Installation
Primary Workstation:
The workstation must be turned on while anyone in your office
is using VHI PC-Kits.
The workstation must be running Windows 98/ME or Windows
NT 4.0 (SP6)/2000/XP/2003 with Internet Explorer 4.01 Service
Pack 2 (or newer) installed.
The workstation must have between 200MB and 500MB free hard
drive space (depending on how many kits youve purchased).
A Pentium 200 MHz or faster is required, 400 MHz is recommended.
It is recommended that this be on a machine that is backed
up on a regular basis, to protect your database from being lost
in a system crash.
If your network is connected to the Internet, it is highly
recommended that this machine be behind a firewall or proxy server
for security reasons.
Additional Workstations:
The workstation must be running Windows 98/ME or Windows
NT 4.0 (SP6)/2000/XP with Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack
2 (or newer) installed.
The workstation must have between 50MB and 500MB free hard
drive space (depending on how many kits you've purchased).
A Pentium 166 MHz or faster is required, 266 MHz is recommended.
A minimum of 32 MB of RAM is required, 64 MB is recommended.
Since the shared database does not reside on these additional
workstations, backing them up is not necessary to protect your
PC-Kits data from a system crash.
Technical Specifications
Database:
VHI PC-Kits clients access the network database using OLE
DB and has been tested with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0/2000 and
MSDE 1.0/2000.
VHI PC-Kits ships with MSDE 2000 (which is equivalent to
SQL Server 2000).
VHI PC-Kits can be installed to an existing Microsoft SQL
Server through the installation program, in a seamless fashion.
Access to the shared database can be controlled using SQL
logins or Integrated NT Authentication (SSPI).
The database can reside on a workstation (in a peer-to-peer
environment) or on a server (in a client-server environment).
Workstations:
VHI PC-Kits can be installed on workstations such that the
entire application (.exe/.dll/kit files) are present on each
workstation, or it can be run from a shared folder on a server.
UNC paths are permitted everywhere a path is required.
VHI PC-Kits has been designed to work with and tested in
Terminal Server/Citrix and diskless workstation environments.
Licenses are granted on the basis of "simultaneous users"
rather than product installs.
Servers:
There are two server components: A database server (see above)
and a license server.
In peer-to-peer environments, the database and license servers
reside on one of the workstations.
In client-server environments, the database and license servers
can reside on the same or different servers.
Clients communicate with the license server for configuration
information using WinSock 1.0 over TCP/IP.
