[Is it ok to have
whey protein shake at night before going to bed for maximum muscle gains?
Tim presented some good information on this. Let me add to it.
Whey protein is digested between 20-100 minutes. The time it takes to digest it depends on if it hydrolyzed, cross flow or isloalte, or whey concentrate.
Sleeping 9 hours at night puts you into a catabolic state. This mean your muscle is not being fed, it is feeding off itself.
Taking whey is like filling your car tank a third of the way up. While it's better than having no gas, it's not going to get you where you are going.
You want to fill you gas tank ALL they way up. Caseinate protein pretty much does that. Digestion time on caseinate is 300-400 minutes.
That means caseinate provides a continueous flow of protein into you system as you sleep...feeding your muscle.
Another alternative is to eat some type of meat or cheeze before going to bed. It will slowly digest throughout the night.

I use only whey protein and do not want to buy any other supplement. thanks
What I have learned in life is the successful individuals do thing they don't want to do at times to get to where they want to go. Your degree of success is at times limited to how committed you are to doing those things you do not want to do.
Thus, how far you go in any area is dependent on how committed you are to doing things other do not do.
