I think that time for us to take our diet a bit more seriously is upon us. After years of adequate numbers my wife came back this time with fasting glucose of 116 and A1C of 6.2.

Doc put her on metformin.

Aside from the obvious diet tips - well should be obvious, clearly we dont adhere - is there anything about this drug we're not going to read about on the label ?

This might be the "break" we need to get on the same page
It started with her renewed desire to get pregnant. Her gyn mentioned giving her the A1C test, noting soemthing about high blood sugar causing irregular cycles.

It's good to have a place to talk.

that's heavy, but I know that you've wanted to get her on the same page as you for a while so hopefully this'll do it.

good luck to you both

It's a good drug, but she has to slowly increase dose. It can cause digestive issues until your body gets used to it.

Many people following a paleo style diet are able to get off of the drugs if they start before it gets too bad.

thank you fellas
I have been encouraged by what I read so far, especially with the idea of getting off of it eventually.
I'll let her know about ramping up, she does have digetive issues already before this, a tortuous colon. She recently found out.

Many of us have to actually have a doctor tell us before we can connect the dots that what we ingest can actually have direct impact on our health and daily comfort. At least she's brave enough to go to the doctor regularly.

Ok, I'd say we are on our way though, her attitude has changed, even a bit prior to the diagnosis.

Of course, the high blood sugar does more damage than any SEs of the metformin. Glad to hear that she's moving in a positive direction.
