That's an eye opener.

My motivation - was coming to the realization that being able to use your body in athletic pursuits is a sacred gift. The gym is a temple where we are allowed to celebrate and honor the gift. Not everyone is able to train.

I don't agree with that. Here's a video of one of our members.

Good for that guy. A wonderful example of the strength of human spirit and resilience.

However, at the risks of angering the EXRX "Defiic Wizards of Sagacity" Clique, I disagree with your disagreement. There are people who are unable to "train" the way that we typically mean "train". Here are some examples that quickly come to mind - a) the already dead, b) people in comas, c) people dying of starvation, d) people who are both armless and legless.

Silly me for not thinking of those.

Indeed.

What motivates me is that I consider myself a disappointment in far too many areas. So I've got something to prove to myself, and I've found that the one place I might be able to prove it is in the gym lifting weight and getting stronger. There I'll see the improvement I've wanted to see for so long.

All of my motivations are superficial.

First and most important I love the activity of lifting weights.

I am also motivated to gain all of the ripple effects. Lifting heavy makes me desire healthy food which makes me feel good. Lifting heavy makes me sleep the sleep of the righteous dead, which makes me feel good. Lifting heavy gives me a delicious sort-of-but-not-quite sore feeling all over most of the time, which makes me feel good.

So I guess I just like to feel good.

Few years ago? Self esteem.

I had been bullied since I was a kid, and my self esteem has been greatly affected. It was only through weight lifting that I can feel like a man again.

Now? I look at it as a challenge to see how far I can push myself.

I want to know how big I can get if I were to really try hard in everything that I do in my life.

People have different motivations. For me I want to become a prime minister and clean up the black whole.
