 Post subject: all isolation workout?

Since Isolation exercises cannot use as much weight, can you really put muscle on? I am asking because I do not have access to a bench with all sorts of barbells, just adjustable dumbells. Bench press/rows etc would be too easy, but with flyes and stuff like that I would have enough weight for them to be somewhat difficult. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to only do isolation or something similiar with positive results.

Just go to Wal-mart and get more plates. They are pretty cheap.

If you lack a bench, you could purchase a good quality Swiss ball. You can do incline, decline, and flat dumbbell presses on it.

Any exercise is better than no exercise, so you're better off exercising than not. I doubt that you will have the same kind of results using isolation exercises that you would using compound exercises, but given your circumstances, you have to do what you have to do.

Here's what I don't understand about your question matt. Isolation moves are fine, IN CONJUNCTION WITH heavy compound moves. OK, you don't have a bench or barbells. What's keeping you from doing P bar dips, chins, handstand pushups? Those alone would give you some serious strength and muscle in the upper body. I hear it now, "I don't have a stand". So build one (Mine cost less than 25 bucks to build with left over 4X4 and 2X4'and a few feet of pipe) or use your imagination. For dips, put two chairs back to back, and use the chair tops as a bar. For chins, hang onto anything in the overhead or go out and pay the 10 bucks or so it takes to get one of the doorway installable chin bars. For lower body, grab anything heavy off the floor and pick it up. For squats, grab something heavy in one hand, steady yourself with the other, and do one lege squats.
