Has anyone ever torn that tendon and not have it surgically repaired? I have and I was wondering does anyone know what the potential long term effects? I injured myself years ago being cocky and did not want to have surgery. Now I have these unsightly dents in my thighs, I cannot perform hanging leg lifts, but everything else I can do, is there anyone else who has experience this!

One of the functions of the rectus femoris iship flexion. Obviously with your injuries, yours aren't able to perform that function any more.

I don't know if surgery to correct the problem is an option now. But your story is a cautionary tale for others who don't take injuries seriously. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I injured them by doing explosive movements without proper warmups! I was squatting one day and then the next I attempted to race someone when I felt and heard a loud snap! Please note that I did not injure both legs at the same time. I had a complete separation in my Right thigh back in 2003 and 3 years later I had a partial tear in my left thigh! At least they both look even.

Whats messed up is you can joke about it but I guess thats the best way to deal with it if you can't fix it. I stretch and make sure I'm warmed up. I'm not a fan of injuries not at all.

If it doesn't hinder you in any way, why have the surgery?

Well it doesn't bother me for the most part, but I was wondering if over time I would have diminished function in my legs due to the injuries. If this is the case, I would then consider surgery. But if all I have to worry about is the two dents in my quads and not being able to do hanging leg lifts, I'll just live with it!
