 Nice analogy. Normally I would say "we don't wear raincoats in the shower do we?" but that's possibly a better way of putting it!

I'm guessing you glove wearing guys put foam over the bar when squatting, too? You know, to protect the skin on the back

When I was doing the "beach workout", and then first tried squats, hell yes. Otherwise I was screaming in agony. Then I heard back exercises (or rather started doing them), and now I'll do it shirtless :green:. Hehe.

I wouldn't recommend squatting shirtless. It you're working hard, you're going to get sweaty, and you don't want to take a chance of the bar slipping.

Heh. I guess I should reiterate. I don't do it shirtless typically, just that I have done it before and it don't hurt. Long improvement over when I first started and I had to wrap a hoodie around the bar and wear one as well...

I've been warned about this (maybe by you, Matt), but I have never felt it slipping. Of course, maybe some people are sweatier than I am.

If it becomes an issue you could just chalk your back, or the bar. Then you'll look extra bada$$ (or just weird).

I get/have marks on my back all the time from squatting, despite wearing a T-shirt

235kg? I'd need a lot of chalk for that.

I start using the foam pad at 185lbs. and higher. It has nothing to do with skin. It just becomes painful when it's heavier.

The only time I use gloves is when I do pull-ups. Some of the bars aren't padded very well and the slight movement of my hand on the bar makes it feel like the skin is ripping off.....great feeling. Other than that, just plain ole' hands.
