I use a pair of Puma motorsport shoes because they have a solid rubber sole (presumably for pedal feel when driving), but I like them because the solid sole won't break due to above-normal stresses due to squatting. Many of the complex sole (esp. with compartments of air for running or whatever) construction of today's shoes aren't meant for bodyweight + 300lbs stresses.
So long as they're comfortable while you're lifting (most importantly not cramping feet), and made durable to withstand it you should be fine, I think.
