It seems to me that listing the specific articulations for Target and Synergist muscles for a given exercise would be very helpful. Knowing the articulations would help getting the form right which prevents injury and improves performance. And having them listed for an exercise would help learn the articulations -- which, if you read some past threads, seems to be a source of confusion.
Take for example the Military Press. I'm going to guess that for the anterior delt we're using flexion. And that using abduction risks injury and would reduce gains.
Also, I have a hunch that a well balanced program involves as many articulations as possible. I can envision a matrix for a given program: exercises on vertical axis and articulation check boxes on the horizontal axis. You could then compare the effectiveness of an exercise of a program, increase balance and avoid overlap.
But maybe my premise is wrong. Am I right in thinking that the more articulations covered in the least number of exercises, the more effective the program? After all, aren't compound exercises the ones with the highest number of synergists, recruited motor units and articulations?
