Matt. have you ever considered doing something called holistic training? It would fit well into a bodybuiding type of split, where you single out parts. I did something like this years ago when I was dabbling into bodybuilding. Say, chest day
BP 5-6 sets of 3-5 reps
DB Incline 3-4 sets of 8-10
Flat DB flye (or cable crossover) 2 X 12-15
Doc Squat came out with something calle ABC training in the early 90's, where A was a day when you did 8-10 reps, B was strength, and C was a combo close to what I posted above, and it was all scheduled on variable reovery rates. Interesting stuff It supposdely covers all aspects of hypertrophy, endurance, etc.

Lately I've been going heavy every third workout. Meanwhile, I stick to higher reps (8-12 or 10-12) on single-joint movements like Dumbbell Laterals, even on heavy days, which is similar to what your describing.

Third workout for a specific muscle group that is. In other words I'll do one heavy week for every two light weeks.
