Went to the doc for my physical and the doc said I had a small inguinal hernia. I asked him if I could keep lifting and he said sure as long as I don't lift a piano, well as it is I do like to lift heavy on squats and deads and bench and press... He said I could also go ahead and get the surgery if I want, they put a mesh in there to keep things in place.
Do any of you have any experience with this?
First One
I got my first hernia in 1994. I had mesh put in.
It took me 6 week before I could do anything and a year to go back to powerlifting at meets.
Head Problem
One of the reason it took me a year to get back to going to meet was that I was freaked out I'd blow it out. So, it was a bit of a head problem coming back.
Second One
I just got my second one fixed last November.
I was back to lifting fairly heavily about 9 week after surgery. They make some real advancements in hernia surgery in 17 years. (1994 to 2011)Quote:
Would you recommend just going ahead and getting the surgery or just go lighter?
Fix It
I performed heavy lifts for a year before getting my second on fixed. That because it too me a while to get medical insurance.
Michael Jackson Syndrome
My hernia kept popping out espeically when lifting heavy.
So, I kept putting my hand down there to push it back in.
I looked like Michael Jackson who use to grab his crotch. Quote:
If you had surgery, how long were you out?
2012
I was out 6 week and then started back. I got mine fixed November 23, 2011.
It now the end up March 2012 and I my lifts are right at where I use to be.
It is amazing what they are doing these days and how fast you come back. Quote:
I guess I could always lower the intensity and raise the volume, say bye bye to the 5/3/1 I have been doing, do you think this is a viable option?
Listen To Your Body
See how thing feel when you are lifting. Keep pushing/pulling as long as everything feel right.
If it doesn't, stop. Quote:
This sucks!
