"Extreme exercise such as marathons may permanently damage the heart and trigger rhythm abnormalities, warn researchers.
They say the safe ‘upper limit’ for heart health is a maximum of an hour a day - after which there is little benefit to the individual.
A review of research evidence by US physicians says intensive training schedules and extreme endurance competitions can cause long-term harm to people’s hearts."

I've been saying for years - cardio hurts the heart.

I've always thought marathon running was dumb, personally.

Cardio also hurts the brain.

As much as I think that long duration cardio is counter productive, I haven't heard this. It's the endorphin rush that chronic cardio fans are looking for and it is addictive. I haven't heard that it's harmful though.

Here's a related article. http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/sci ... ners-high/

If I use a squirrel-cage machine for more than a minute my brain starts aching. Maybe it's my mind that hurts. Whatever, I can't stand it and have to quit.
