Not celebrity names either...I just checked in a guy at my job named Griffith Griffith. I mean, what were the folks thinking there? Funniest I can recall was a little gal in my high school named Galaxy Kittyhawk Starcruiser...I'll never forget that name...it's funny how much something like your name can affect you in your life when it differs so far from the norm as well. She got picked on everyday.

When I was in grade school, I also had a teacher named Mr. Cool...his first name was lloyd, but its so much better with the mr in front of it.

I also found out galaxy had a bro named mars millennium falcon starcruiser, and jupiter laserblaster starcruiser. Apparently their parents really, really loved George Lucas.

In PNG names are often chosen because of the circumstances of the child's birth. I met a baby the other day, born as a surprise to a previously-infertile mother, and named "Gift".

Names may be chosen to convey power. "Hitler", "Stalin", "Lennin", "Tiger" and "Shark" are some that I remember. Can you imagine if "Hitler" is ever able to get an education and try to function in an academic or business setting? If he stays in the village, no one will ever think twice about it.

I'd be all up for giving my kids horrendous middle names, but a daft sounding first name is just mean.

There was a case here in Sweden where the parents wanted to name their babyy girl Metallica, they got denied by whatever people decide what you can name your kids, the parents took it to court and they won. I wish my parents had named me Metallica. Awesome name.

In Sweden, there is an agency that has the power to determine what you can and cannot name your children...

And I thought the Swedes were more open minded than that..

Speaking of changing names, I remember reading that someone, to celebrate his vegetarianism, decided to change his name to goveg.com . I'm not sure if goveg was his first, and .com was his last, or if it was just his first, but needless to say either way is downright idiotic.

On another changing name note, I once heard that a guy who tried to change his name to Santa Claus was denied by a judge, simply because the effect it would have on children if his name was Santa Claus
