About the only German beer easily available here is Becks. I've have a couple of others that I thought were better but I can't remember the name. I would have to agree that I prefer Stella to Becks. What are some German beers that I should look for? Browsing our local liquor board listing, Other than Becks, I've found:
BITBURGER PREMIUM LAGER,
DAB ORIGINAL DORTMUND LAGER,
ERDINGER DUNKEL WEISSBIER ALE,
ERDINGER WHEAT ALE
HOLSTEN MAIBOCK
KONIG LUDWIG WEISSBIER
WARSTEINER PREMIUM VERUM (I remember this one on a recent trip to Europe)
LOWENBRAU
HOLSTEN FESTBOCK
WARSTEINER PREMIUM DUNKEL
KROMBACHER PILS
SCHNITZER BRAU ORGANIC GLUTEN FREE
PAULANER OKTOBERFEST LAGER
PAULANER HEFE WEISSBIER
HACKER PSCHORR HEFEWEISSE

So out of this list, what would you recommend? Most seem rather pale, except for the Festbock. I'm more a fan of darker beers, red ale, bitter, stout, etc, especially Irish.

most of the beers from the list are wheat beers from bavaria, the best of them is definately erdinger wheat ale. i don't drink dark beer, but on the list are erdinger dunkel and warsteiner premium dunkel (dunkel = dark), i think they are both good. i only drink pilsner, which is sometimes also called lager in the us, best pilsner on the list is krombacher. i always have krombacher pilsner or veltins pilsner (not on list) at home. they are both a bit watery, but i like that, cause you can drink a ton of watery beer. it's really good for parties.

Thanks. I'll try some of these.

Offer is still open to bend some bars in Leiden, if there is a gym there.

Just to let you know that Cannabis is still legal for tourists. There's been talk about changing it but it will never happen due to how much money it brings in from tourism. I went to Amsterdam at the end of December, amazing city.
