My cousin said that people only do deadlifts and squats because they read about it in fitness magazines. Of course this is coming from a guy who only does upperbody workouts and starting doing leg press.

Whops, I thought I was posting this in the random thread. Good article Jason!

Clipboard cowboy! Awesome!

I've been walking through the gym so long
Listening to a crappy club song
I know every bosu ball and pink dumbbell
where pretty machine are the game
and free weights get washed away like the snow and the rain
toning the core to the exclusion of all
everything is done on a Swiss ball
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a clipboard cowboy
balanced on a Swiss ball with 3 lbs pink dumbbells
Like a clipboard cowboy
toning, gadgets and core are what sells
10 lbs cable kick backs will get you toned

You really won't get any gains
But you won't have to deal with any pains
You're down about not loosing weight, but just keep walking the treadmill
You can dream of the results I said you'd get
But all I'll I have for you is more bull$h1t
toning the core to the exclusion of all
everything is done on a Swiss ball
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me

Like a clipboard cowboy
balanced on a Swiss ball with 3 lbs pink dumbbells

This might be the best song ever written!

When I was laughing about clipboard cowboy it just made me think of that. I kept the form exactly the same and even kept some of the words. I even left one line in there unaltered because it made sense in both the original and the parody.

For those of you don't know, there is an old song, from the mid 70's called Rhinestone Cowboy. I think I must have heard it in a movie when I was a kid, because all I can remember is the "like a rhinestone cowboy" part. It's kind of strange because I don't even listen to that kind of music.

People never want to believe that the new methods at their core are essentially saying they have solved the difficulty of training so it's a massive selling point - like weight loss.

I find it as simple as that really... over promised.

"what does this machine do" "oh great - because machine x didnt work, this new one must have been invented because the old one didnt work, I bet this one will get me my abs"

I will often walk into a gym, and see someone doing the most ridiculous pointless things I have ever seen. I know right away he's been working with a trainer. You just feel sorry for him.

I love this time of year at the gym. Everyone has already given up so they can make a new years resolution. It's so empty and quiet. January sucks, but by February it's back to normal again. I call them the "rezzies" on account of their new years resolutions. More than half the rezzies are gone by February. But January at 5:00PM, good luck getting a cardio machine, despite the fact that when you add them all together there are easily over 100.

At least there's never a line for the squat rack.

There are three of them plus a platform where I go. They get used a lot though, so there can be a wait during peak hours. I go to a Gold's, so there are plenty of us meatheads in there.
