Here is the basic issue. Approximately two weeks ago I was doing a quick 5k jog/run (about 8 min/mi) on a combination of road and grass. With about a mile to go, the tibialis anterior started burning in both legs almost at the same time. I assumed that they were just a product of running head into the wind for the last mile, but when I stopped they completely locked up. The bottoms of each muscle were pulsing and protruding and hurt quite bad to the point where I couldn't walk for about 5 minutes. I had been a little dehydrated that day and overtired so I assumed the increased difficulty was the issue. I did some stretching and also some dorsi and plantar flexion exercises to help loosen them up. Here's the issue, they are still hurting from time to time two weeks later and I have done 0 running. I'm on my feet all week, but I would assume they should've healed by now. In addition, they are also feeling almost like there are nerve firings/ electrical heat in them fairly regularly. I have never had any issues like this before. Has anyone had any dealings with this or have any ideas physiologically what may have happened? I appreciate any educated input or corrective ideas. I need to get running again. thanks

Are you using running shoes? If so, you might have your answer right there. Too much protection and your foot atrophies. I'm up to ten miles road/grass on the side of the road barefoot, and about the same distance in my Vibrams. The transition from heel strike to toe strike did amazing things for my power and efficiency. Now even after a brutal shoulder injury, and prior to that my gracilis and sartorius being severed from their insertions, I can get runner's high.
