I know why I lift and I feel I have a basic knowledge to gain and eventually get more knowledge to where I have the ability to get huge. I "talk" regularly with a lot of people on here peter kpj stuward tim ironmaiden.

I'm really curious if you guys compete wether is bodybuilding or power lifting and what your stats are. I know peter does MMA and tim lifts for health but I was thinking that if there was a bio on this website per person that would be amazing.

For example

John Corless
5'8 207lbs
medium build
lifts for: strength size eventually bodybuiling maybe power lifting
1RM
bench:
squat:
deadlift:
curls:
overhead press:
clean:
snatch:
etc

I think that would be cool. I mean I know a lot of people probably don't care. I just think it would be better than having to ask hey what do you lift for how much can you lift or have you ever competed etc etc etc. JUST THOWING IT OUT THERE  lol

John, it seems to me that this is the type of information that people would put in their online journal if they wanted to.

For the record, I don't compete. I train for health reasons and because I have to meet fitness standards for the military. I'm 51, 6'2" 210#, slight build, hate running and my lifts are on my journal page. Strength doesn't come easy for me. I have to work hard to make any progress and I've been like that my whole life. I don't build muscle easy and up until age 30, I had no trouble staying ripped. In middle age it's harder to keep the fat off but I manage. I have the advantage that there are 3 excellent gyms in Halifax that I have free access to and every time I travel, there is a good facility nearby that is free for my use. As well, I am given adequate time during work hours to exercise.

Stu

stu's got a point about that--but I'm going to go ahead and do it anyways.

A.I. (not the A.I. of course)
I'm going to say I'm 5'8" even though I've been recorded at heights from 5'8" to 5'11".
A small build of anywhere to 160-170lbs (I fluctuate day-to-day, week by week in that range).
I work out for the health benefits, because I plan on having a career (I'm majoring in exercise science, concentrating in medical sciences, and minoring in sports psychology) in this field in some manner I also figure I should be a beacon of it's benefits and greatness. I also work out because I enjoy performing, I'll tag onto basketball, football, and futbol teams given the opportunity at any level from pick-up to varsity. I swim like a rock, mostly because I don't swim. I also enjoy tennis and golf and runs on the beach.
I started lifting when I was 16 when I was in high school, mainly because that was the first time I'd ever heard of a gym, the irony in that Arnold was a childhood hero of mine having grown up 1 country away from him.
My favorite exercise is the power clean. As for my lift records, I think they're in my journal, or maybe I deleted them, yeah I deleted them, I'll throw them up sometime.

I was thinking about this recently. Like maybe we need a disclaimer tag under out user names. So when Chris_A answers a question, you know he's talking bodybuilding, but when I do, I couldn't care less about bodybuilding. Not to pick on Chris_A, he's just a good example of a person with very different goals than me. Essentially, a "state your biases" situation.

But I'll include a bit more of this stuff in my journal in the first entry. Here is what I'll put:

Age: 36
Sex: Male
Height: 193cm (6'4")
Weight: 85kg (185#)
Morphology: Narrow frame (wrap my hand around my wrist and my thumb and index finger overlap)
Workout goals: Fight MMA better, Improve overall strength and athleticism, fix posture problems.
My primarily workouts emphasize strength and metcon benefits since they most directly translate to MMA.
I'd gargle bees if it made me fight better.
Limitations: Exercise induced asthma (running/sprinting/rapid box jumping causes attacks), injury magnet.
Background: Lifting non-seriously until 1999, lifting on a daily or near-daily routine nonstop since August 1999.
Favorite Training Books: The Art of Expressing the Human Body (John Little), Starting Strength (Mark Rippetoe/Lon Kilgore), Kelso's Shrug Book (Paul Kelso), Brawn series/Insider's Tell-All etc...(Stuart McRobert), Getting Stronger (Bill Pearl).
Favorite Training Websites: exrx.net, simplefit.org, www.crossfit.com, www.defrancostraining.com, strengthmill.org.
Favorite Lift: The deadlift.

I've been doing some form of martial arts since my early teens, but I remained a skinny fat kid for a long time. I hated sports except for baseball as a little kid, mostly because I was really bad at them. Bad vision, no hand-eye coordination, etc. But the one thing I was good at was putting a punch on a moving person's face. Tried a soloflex, which was my first real introduction to lifting. Not great, but it got me started and got me my first dip and first chinup. In 1999 I read "The Art of Expressing the Human Body" - a guide to Bruce Lee's quest for fitness. I realized I needed to lift not for some short term goal but forever, for the rest of my life, and strive to always get better. Went out the day after I read it and bought some hex dumbells and began to train in my yard at my tiny apartment.

My 1RMs aren't worth noting, yet, but you can find what I'm currently lifting in my journal. I've done 1 1/2x bodyweight for reps in the deadlift but I can't 1RM my bodyweight for bench press, or squats.

Peter

Good point. I’m more concerned with bodybuilding and shaping my body to the best of my genetic ability. I could care less about “whatdayabench” contests. I lift heavy, but I know there are PLs that lift heavier. How my clothes fit and how I feel are more important to me than whether or not I can deadlift an elephant. And seriously, I don’t think there will ever be an occasion in my life where I’ll have to deadlift an elephant. But there are plenty of occasions where the shirt comes off and pants are traded for shorts.

I was in the martial arts for years. I’m ranked and have competed in Shin Nagare, Tae Kwon Do, and Tang Soo Do. Tang Soo Do was my favorite discipline, and the last I trained in. Then I busted my right shoulder very badly doing break falls. It took over 4 months for me to regain full use of my right arm, and by then I’d taken new responsibilities at work, was taking programming classes for special projects, and just never found time to go back to martial arts.

I’d lifted weights off and on while in the martial arts, but never wanted to get “too big” since I thought it would slow me down. After being out of martial arts for nearly a year, I turned to weight training seriously to keep in shape, and that’s when I was bitten by the bodybuilding bug.

So yeah, my bias is more general health and bodybuilding. My objectives are to maintain maximum lean mass with low body fat instead of one day being able to lift 1000 lbs.

That's not to say lifting 1000 lbs isn't a great goal. It's very damn impressive, and I repsect it! It's just not for me.

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 165
Build: Medium, meso
Goals: Bodybuilding oriented, I want to get good muscle definition for once in my life, and strength.
Background: I've been lifting since high school but have frequently taken breaks due to various circumstance. Being active and maintaining a certain quality of life is something I want to start now rather than later. Lifting and exercise in general is like meditation for me, concentrating on simple motions clears my head of the mess it is usually filled with.
Favorite training websites: exrx.net and bodybuilding.com
Favorite lift: Dips

Chris, nothing wrong with wanting to look good. That is secondary to me to fighting well, but it's a hell of a nice perk.

Ryan
6'2" / 208.5-210LBs

Bench:205
Squat:295
Deadlift:315
Curls:90
Overhead/Military:105
Chinups:6
Clean:NA
1Mile - 7:35
5k - 24:45

Why I lift - To look good naked honestly. I don't play sports, and I don't use my strengths in any real world application. I do enjoy being healthy in general though, nice to feel good all the time. I was at one point a kinesiology major, so I have a solid foundation in lifting, but I just came back from about a 2 year hiatus. I'm suprised I didn't have to start "all" the way over again, and that I was able to get over 200 in 2 months. I'm 3 1/2 months back into it now, and I got back into it for the reason of my weight slipping a bit "230'ish".

You can look good and be a great fighter! Look at Randy Couture.

I told the other American who trains at the gym with me that you said this. He laughed and said "Good luck. You're head's too small to be Randy Couture." He's more than 20kg heavier than me and built stockier; I'm not likely to get 25% heavier than I am now. I'll have to pick another fighter to model myself after...

5’ 11’
Presently ~ 160 lbs
Largely ectomorphic (I like to tell myself a slight touch of mesomorphic  )
Goals: I started off wanting to get bigger but now I just love lifting weights and to be honest I would lift just for the sake of it
I’ve lifted weights on and off in the past but didn’t know what I was doing until I found this fantastic site; I read these forums every day now and find them inspirational and a great motivation.
Limitations: I find it very hard to force myself to eat enough of the right things.
Favourite lift: The deadlift, love it, getting better all the time, recent best is 230 lbs which I’m sure is very little compared to a lot of posters here but frankly, for me, not so long ago, this is a weight that may just have well been bolted to the floor!
