The numbers are for: Carbs / Fiber / Sugar / Protein

Frozen raspberries from Whole Foods: 14 / 4 / 7 / 2
Frozen raspberries from HEB: 29 / 2 / 6 / 2
Frozen blackberries from HEB: 15 / 8 / 8 / 2

None of these are close the values at:
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/frui ... ces/1850/2
http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/frui ... ces/2053/2

What's up with that?

It looks like the HEB numbers are out of whack. Do you have a link?

A link to the HEB nutrition information? No, but I have the actual bag in my freezer.

But even the WF one has more sugar than fiber, and your link and mine both say raspberries should have more fiber than sugar...

I didn't realize there were places without HEB.

Anyone have ideas here? How could there be so much variation from the accepted published values all over the web? And variation from bag to bag?

Could the difference be whether or not they are sweetened or serving sizes? The raw rasberries are fairly close the the Frozen ones.

All the packages say either unsweetened or no sugar added - and the only ingredient listed on any is the fruit itself.

Anyone else have frozen raspberries at their store to compare?

Uh that's a lot of blueberries. Do they have nutritional info, and if so does it match the standard published web values?

LABEL:
Serving 4.9 Oz or 140 g
Calories 76
fat 0
Carbs 18.5
Fibre 4.3
Sugar 14.5
Protein .7

WHFOODS:
serving 1 cup or 145 g
Calories 81.2
Fat .56
Carbs 20.48
Fibre 3.98
Sugar 16.54
Protein .98

It seems pretty close to me.

They were on sale, $10.50 for a 5lb box. Blueberries are one of the most important local crops here in Nova Scotia so we get deals every once in a while.

Well I have another data point, this brand of Raspberries:

http://www.cascadianfarm.com/products/p ... 08-53001-7

However the nutritional info on that bag is:

Carbs / Fiber / Sugar / Protein
16 / 3 / 9 / 1

Once again, no where close to the expected numbers, although their web site does specifically state that the numbers can vary.

Well I wrote to HEB and got what appears to be a legitimate answer:

Quote:
Comments:
Is it possible one of the HEB branded frozen berries has an incorrect
nutritional information? I noticed that Strawberries, Blackberries,
Blueberries, and Raspberries each had fiber at or less than their
respective levels of sugar. Hover the berry medley which is a mix of
those 4 berries, had more fiber than sugar. Seemingly one of the 5 bags
must be wrong?

Quote:
I shared your comments with our Own Brands Quality Assurance
Department and their response follows...

They are all correct. We get these fruits from different suppliers in
varying places. Sugar level can change as a fruit ripens when the fruit
converts starches to sugars. Sugar levels will vary depending on
growing conditions, level of ripeness, etc.... The differences on these
packages are extremely small. We do not add any sugar to the fruit, it
is all natural from the berries.

Thank you again for writing, and for shopping at H-E-B.

Sincerely,

Wendie
