It's quite good to read this log. It cost me $20 actually as it twisted my arm to buy the book.

My first thought was - LOADS OF REPS (for the assistance stuff). And, not a big volume of lifts at a high %. But I took a step back and realised that it's probably exactly what I need.

When I've finished what im doing just now, I'm going to test everything then give this a shot. Not sure if i'll be able to handle military press but i'll atleast give it a try and see how it goes.

Whoops Doc, I should have said assited chins. I can do about four unassisted.

KPj, I was almost at a standstill with my progress. I tried everything to speed things up. I haven't maxed out yet, and will wait for the 3 month point to do so, but I feel have made more progress in the last 6 weeks than I did all of last year.

It doesn't have to be the military press, it can be the shoulder press.

It's just the 'overhead' part that could be a problem. But, if it is, my shoulders will get pi$$ed off gradually, so i'll know before it's too much of an issue, and, when they do get painfull, I can sort them out in a matter of days. It's worth trying I think. I've missed military pressing! If i choose assistance exercises carefully, I think i'll be fine.

It sounds good. I like the focus on reps as opposed to a 1RM. I don't max out a hell of a lot but i'm always focused on the weight more than the reps i.e. focusing on getting 3RM higher, or 2RM higher.... Been doing a lot of 'singles over 90%' and it basically just turns into a battle with the ego. I blame the guys i've been training with recently (translation: lack of will power). I think this could be a great change up for me. I also always do 3 and 5 rep maxes on assistance stuff like pull/chin ups, DB rows etc so it will be interesting to see what happens when I start going for loads of reps on these instead. I might even - gulp - get bigger. Hmmmmm

I'm curious what you and the Doc chose out of the percentage options? (65,75,85 vs, 75, 80, 85) Option 1 or 2? Wendler says option 2 can be pretty grueling but it looks more appealing. That probably means I should go for option 1.... Wendler, or someone on elitefts, said something like, "when you enter the gym your IQ drops to 0". I think the same probably happens when you try and look at your own programs - what you want to do vs what you NEED to do.

see for this 5/3/1 do you always use the same core lifts? What i mean is say for example you're doing conventional deadlifts would you always do conventional deadlifts for however long you're doing the program or would you cycle other variations?

Well, I'm interested in the shoes. I walk barefoot any time I'm not shopping or working, even outside. I'd like to be able to keep doing that even after winter comes, and the vibrams look like one way to do that. Not a cheap way, though...

FWIW Doc, I could go a lot deeper without the briefs.
And that's still big weight!

Great job. Yeah, I think it's OK to say that you won your division.

I hate people who bench more than I deadlift.

That said, it sounds like you had a good time and lifted well despite the thigh tweak. Maybe the competition was a bit scarce but you showed up and lifted hard. That's still a win.
