Ok, quick survey... how frequently does your gym not have hot water?

I'm about to pop a gasket over repeated cold showers at my current gym. It seems that at least 2-3 times a month (perhaps even once a week), the hot water is out.... leaving those of us who shower there with only cold water. Great way to start the day, esp now that the weather is turning cooler.

What I find particularly puzzling is that this facility is part of a larger health center. It's in the basement of a large hospital's professional building. You would think a complex like this would have the physical plant to reliably support 16 or so shower stalls (8 in each locker room).

Before I add this to a list of reasons to move to the YMCA (at the very bottom of that list, mind you), I'm just kind of curious as to whether I'm being fair... Is this just part of belonging to a gym?

Aren't cold showers good post workout?

MMA fighters do it.

I think what you are thinking of is contrast showers, and yes they are a great tool for recovery. Mark Verstegen is a big advocate. He actually has his athletes alternate between the swimming pool and hot tube.

As far as scholt's comment, sounds like bad management to me. Have you spoken to them about it?

You couldn't pay me to get into the showers at my gym. Have you seen some of the heathens you workout around?

LOL... I see the kids they have working there, and there is no way on god's green earth those kids are doing a good job cleaning those stalls.

No showers at our gym. No change room. I change in the corner. Most of the users change at home, but I go to w/o straight from work. Shower at home.

Too bad the details of that article aren't available without payment. I've done ice baths sometimes following cardio workouts, and they feel great. I have a hard time believing they could be detrimental.

I don't bother with it. I have a perfectly good shower at home.
