I saw on an exercise video a new work out. It is similar to lateral raises, they called then 180 lateral raises. You hold dumbbells in front of your pelvis with your palms facing out. And raise your straight arm until your weights touch above your head.

I was wondering what exactly does this work out.

So, that's a lateral raise with the shoulders in slight flexion and in internal rotation. Sounds OK. Someone trying to make lateral raises more safe for the shoulders. If you can do conventional lateral raises without discomfort, I don't think that this would be a huge advantage, but certainly wouldn't hurt.

You say that this is the workout--this one exercise is the whole workout that they suggest?

It sounds like Shaun T's Insanity Workout Video. The program uses weight training as cardio. It's a way of moving the weight through as much range as possible.

It actually is from Insanity. And i figured it was just a way to get more motion in the same exercise. Thanks for all the help.

I've seen people do this, I don't really get it. It looks like a more uncomfortable version of the lateral raise.
