I didn't really mean to say that you're doing it wrong. It's your journal, you can do anything with it that you want! I just thought it might be more useful to you if you kept a record of your lifts. You can abbreviate if you want. "8x45" for "8 reps at 45 pounds." Saves some typing.

What happened on the front squat? Have you done anything to work your way up to it? You can do "goblet squats" which is holding a weight in your hands against your chest. You can use a dumbbell or a weight plate or a kettlebell. You can start as low as you need to.
No, I just jumped into them I really didn't work up. I just thought they wouldn't be much different.

A lot of people find that it's uncomfortable to hold the bar in the "catch" position. At first you can just practice holding it for a few seconds at a time, and gradually increase. Some gyms have a light bar (15kg, about 32 pounds) that might be easier to start with.
That's what I have. Its a 35 though. and I also have a 15 I'll start with that one first.
