hey you said you hit 3 x 285 on your dead lift? How big are you tall and weight wise? Yesterday i hit 325 lbs 5 times thats my personal best but i was aiming for a set of eight. Have you ever done a one rep max on deal lifts? I haven't not sure what weight i should put on there one rep is kinda wierd lol.

No, I've never tried 1RM. I was aiming for 5 on that set of 3. I'll hit it at the end of the month. I only deadlift every 2 weeks. I'm 6'2" 210#. And I'm 51 so go easy on me. :)

Here's a little chart I use to calculate my loads.

If you do 5 reps of 325, then divide 325/0.856 = 380.

You might try 1x325, 1x345, 1x365, 1x385.

wow awesome stu i appreciate it. I do think normally if i were doing that one rep set you recomended i could do more than 380 not sure though. I started 12 reps 250 10 reps 296 and then i tried that 325 so i was hurting at that point. Hmmm well at least your tall and I wasnt saying you were weak or anything not at all. I would rather be 6'2 to be honest. I'm 5'8" weighing around 210 wasnt blessed up and down so ill grow to the sides haha. I'll def look into that one rep max thing like you did. Thanks.

Bout time, at the Y, do they make you put on the safety collars?

I was benching and one of the staff members came and put them on, I should thank him though, I was quite angry and it helped add 5 lbs.

No one ever mentioned collars to me. I usually use them anyway. One thing I've noticed is that every YMCA is different.

Wow. The conventional wisdom is that old guys shouldn't dead that kind of volume, yet you seem to be doing it without any problems. How are you getting away with it? How do your working weights compare to your 1RM on them?

I stated out considerable lighter than normal but now I'm in my previous 5RM ballpark. I workout in the morning. I'm usually sore each afternoon and good to go by the next morning.

When I used to visit JP Fitness a lot, there was a 64 year old that was working on a challenge with a friend to be the first to deadlift 1 million pounds. He won in 2 months. At the end he was doing about 150 reps/day at 225. He started at 225 and kept putting the volume up everyday but he never put the weight up. I'm putting the weight up but keeping the volume constant.

My son did 110 on the weekend so he beat met to it. I'm going to try the 95 again tomorrow.

I'm in the Army and it's mandated that we do this every year. The weight is 24.5Kg and the time is 2:26:40. Weird timing but it works. We have a couple of other tests after but they're trivial.

The trouble with the march is that we keep going without stopping so there's no change to attend to the areas that hurt. If your feet get hot, usually from friction, you will get blisters. My feet were obviously moving around more in my boots than I thought they would. An extra pair of socks might have helped.
