Is there any way to turn off the smilies display?

I use a tiny netbook for my posting, and the smilies carpet a big area on the side of my posting window. I have to scroll down pretty far to hit "post." Since I rarely use them (and mostly type the ones I do) I'd love to hide them by default.

Is that possible?

If you use Firefox you can. Just install this two add-ons:
Adblock Plus,
Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus.
I think that they exist on Google Chrome, too.

I did reduce the amount of smiles that show last week.

A little better. Still way more than I need.

BTW I just noticed the frown and sad smilies are the same. I don't remember how this can be done in phpBB but it should possible to hide one of them, so the posts that make use of those codes will still display correctly, but only one of them shows up in the pane.

Yea, I know how to do that. I'll get the smile thing cleaned up later on.

I didn't mean to imply that you need to be taught how, rather I chose a somewhat convulted way to say that I didn't remember how it is done in phpBB. Hope I didn't rub you the wrong way, I was just trying to be helpful :)

That's alright. I didn't take it that way.

Great. Sometimes I do that unwillingly, and it pains me every time when it happens. Some part of my obnoxious self I'd never managed to get rid of
