I looked around for this topic but didn't see it. I have recently taken an interest in Personal Training and looking in the industry it comes to me there are a lot of certifications (A.C.E., A.C.S.M., N.S.C.S., A.F.A.A. for examples) that seem to be acceptable. Even within for example the ACSM there are many levels of certification. Looking through their websites is to say the least overwhelming and huge amounts of information. I am curious if anyone has already look into this. My default is always been to go straight to the ACSM if I have questions. What are all these bodies, how are they connected. What are the pros and cons of each?
Thanks
John.

We had a thread on this recently. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7694&hilit=certification

Look for Kenny's post. It may not directly answer your question but I'm sure he'll fill in anything else you need.

Hey John I'm currently going to school for my associates in personal training and going for my ace certification its a two year degree done online unless you want to go to missouri...where they have their campus.

Check em out www.pinnaclecareerinstitue.com thats what I go to they always redirect me to another site but if you were serious they would work with you and if you have access to the internet you can make it happen. You could talk to a student advisor counselor and they can help you out.

Quick tip: It is not easy currently I'm taking Kinesiology 101...barely passing...barely. Know that if you were to take this step its a lot better then just getting a certification. Aslo at the end of my two years I have to go to a boot camp in Las Vegas for a two week siminar and I believe Jay cutler will be running it I'm not entirely sure of who and what but it's supposed to be very informative.

I don't know where your commitment levels are but after this ill further my education probably into nutrition so I can do both.

Take care

John Corless

Yeah, John. You do have a tendency to dig up old threads. At least it's not years-old threads!

When you only visit once a year, there's a lot to catch up on.

I've tried some on-line college stuff. Man, that's a lot of writing/typing. You have to write 2X as much as a regular go in and have a seat one.

With a sit down course the instructor can get feedback from students through class participation and the students retain what they learn due to that same interaction. With an online course, writing is the only way for that interaction to happen. My wife likes online courses because she's a natural writer. I find I need the class environment. I've never done well with correspondence or online courses.

Listen stuward I'm a very busy guy LOL. Maybe there should be a shelf life on certain topics if left uncommented on or if the OP didn't sign back on in time to check.

I was just trying to help.

John
