I wonder if your "other words" really convey the gist of the article. The same article says
But if you have intractably high cholesterol or a history of heart disease or stroke... you should be on statins.”
Statins are anti-aging for arteries, If you take them, you’ll have younger arteries.
For me, the end of this sentence

is a price I am more than willing to pay. I prefer to die as the oldest man on earth than as the strongest one (but that might be an age related look at life).
