Had two random weightlifting moments yesterday.

Went to buy a suit for my niece's wedding. I've always worn a 40 long jacket, so I tell the saleswoman this, she has me try on a couple and says to my wife in her Russian accent, "oh no, he wear 44, his shoulders not fit a 40, must be 44."

Later in the shopping trip and wife and daughter were getting shoes. I declined and stayed in the car to snooze, but realizing I was facing into a huge box gym, and started watching the lifters. not pretty. Don't think I saw a single complete ROM on any exercise. The ugliness in the overhand lat pulldowns I don't even want to think about. Odd: everybody in there was naturally large, meaning tall and broad, except for one guy who was more average looking. He was the only guy who had a journal he was marking as he finished a set. he was only doing shrugs, but I actually found myself thinking, "now that guy I could probably bend some bars with."

I photographed wood frogs at Middle Creek on March 3rd and painted turtles there on March 17th. That's really early for central PA. I've also been seeing cabbage whites (butterflies) for about a week now, and the spring peepers (treefrogs) are out of hybernation.

I found out the other day that zucchini (courgette for some) is a fruit, not a vegetable.

Also, cucumbers, pumpkins, squash, nuts, beans, tomatoes and peppers, even grains.

In California on business, and was in a bar and one of my colleagues remarks, "No more for me, I've set a PR for wine." So I say, "what kind of exercise do you do then?" Had a great conversation. She does ironman mostly (!!), but has gotten into a cross-fit type of weights workout. Anyway I got a kick out of that "I've set a PR for wine" remark.

In WWII, Sauwerkraut was called, "victory cabbage."

I saw a hugely morbidly obese lady today wearing a shirt that said "It's time to unleash the beast"

I really hope I'm not around when that happens

I haven't seen many "american sized" indivuduals over here. Maybe a few of these in all my life.
I hope it stays that way ... it kills my appetite.

there's loads of them in Scotland. Scotland has pretty much the worst everything in Europe. We are fat, sedentary, booze and drug addled, underage pregnant smokers. You like knife crime? Well we've got a disproportionately high amount of that too.

Ahhh - I see my future.

And there is an easy way to get rid of knife crime. Make it illegal to own and confiscate them all.

No one would be stupid enough to attempt this at my gym, but at Planet Fitness, hey why not?

New Braunfels, TX) -- New Braunfels Police are on the lookout for a knife-wielding man that tried to attack a woman in the parking lot of a local workout facility.

Just before midnight Wednesday into Thursday a woman was leaving the Planet Fitness location along the northbound I-35 access road when she was approached by a man carrying a knife. She initially noticed the man as she exited the building, and then heard footsteps coming up behind her, and when she turned she saw that the man with the knife was running towards her. So she started yelling loudly, asking the man what he was doing. The man tried to convince the woman to talk softer, but she refused, and continued to yell at him, and the would-be attacker became frightened and ran from the scene in the direction of FM 1044.

New Braunfels Police Lt. Heath Purvis says the woman did exactly what she should have done, and he advises other residents to be mindful of their surroundings when in public, especially at night. He says that if a similar situation were to arise you should draw as much attention to yourself as possible and put something between you and the would-be attacker. To hear his comments, just click the Audio Clip link below.

Police officials say they are now on the lookout for the man in question. He’s described as a heavy set white male, 5’ 7” to 5' 9” tall, weighing around 250 pounds, with a red or brownish goatee. At the time of the incident he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black jeans with red boxer shorts showing, and was possibly wearing a dark-colored baseball cap.

Give them all guns.

that's what they're trying, doesn't work so good.

A friend of mine grew up in a scheme in a really rough part of glasgow (a scheme is what Americans call a project). As he grew up he saw posters Strathclyde police put up everywhere talking about the thousands of knives confiscated by them every year. He says that all this told him was that everyone's got a knife, so he better get one too. Don't want to be the only guy without a knife now do ya?

How can it not work well? Wouldn't criminals readily give up their knives when they know it is against the law to possess them?
