We see a lot of people posting programs for feedback, without clarifying what they hope to achieve with their exercise routines. I thought I'd see if we could come up with a consensus on how to post a program and get great feedback, instead of a host of questions and disagreements, sarcasm from Oscar and impatience from me.

Step one:
Tell us about your fitness history and your current state. Six foot and skinny? 300 pounds? New to lifting or looking to sculpt out the last 10% of your physique? The more specific you are the better, but if you don't know your stats, a general overview will still allow us to provide better feedback.

Step two:
Tell us your goals. The more specific your goals, the better; not just for us to provide feedback, but for yourself to measure progress. Remember that prioritizing and simplifying your goals is going to enhance your chances of success. List your goals in order of importance so we can tailor our advice, and so that we don't focus our efforts on the lesser items.

Step three:
Share your program!

I'd make this a sticky, but it seems that newbies always ignore stickies!

Example (note: false):

Hey guys,

My name is Jason Jones. I'm 38, and I was fat for most of my adult life. My girlfriend and I are finally getting married, and it's motivated me to get in shape! I'm at my ideal weight, but I'm looking to build a body that looks good in a suit. I've heard that shoulders and wiast make the physique, is that true? My shoulders are currently 44" and waist is 33".

I think I'd like to add 3" to my shoulders and maybe drop 2" from my waist in six months.

I've been doing:

Monday
Side raises 3 x 8-12
Barbell upright row 3 x 8-12
Standing military press 3 x 8-12

(etc)

I thought you were going to let yourself go to weeds after the wedding

It's easier to just fatten up the fiancee
You'll look leaner by comparison.
Then borrow her shoulder pads.
Fat chicks don't need those.

I'm sending chocolates to her work as we speak!

Why won't you make a sticky about ignoring stickies?

Maybe one with "READ THIS FIRST" in the subject line.

Don't do it! They will look at this as the red-light to get fat.
