hello guys,

what's your opinion on the different forms of nutrition? do you think one of the forms has great advantages on weightlifting? for example, you often hear vegans have more overall fitness and more energy, but omnivores a growing muscles faster. which proteins are better? from meat, from animals (milk etc.) or from plants? or is it only important to eat enough protein, no matter what kind?

Vegetables are what food eats. Period. End of story.

in reality, there is probably not much difference when you get down to it on the protein. The biggest issue I can see by not eating animal protein is that it would be difficult to consistently get enough of it.

Note - this is bro-science. I should've sat down and researched it a little further.

I'd say that vegetarians (or vegans especially) need more help from supplements on when it comes to protein and mineral/vitamin intake. In relation, here is an article from Nate Greens and John Berardis new strength/growth program. A client story about vegetarian bulking.

You should get half your protein each from plants and meat. There are different kinds of protein and you need the variety.

The problem vegans have is getting all the nutrients they need. You have to get enough of each amino acid, as well as other vitamins. So it's a not easy, and they usually end up with deficiencies because of that. Vegetarians can eat eggs and milk, so it's just boring more than anything.

The problem is we are nonobligate carnivores. So we require a meat diet, but we can simulate that from non-animal sources. It's the same way dogs are. Cats on the other hand are obligate carnivores, and can't live without meat, and have limited ability to digest other things.

Omnivores generally have the ability to process some meat, but also digest cellulose. If you classify omnivore as anything that eats both, then almost everything is an omnivore. Some of those animals would be better classified as primarily vegetarian, or as nonobligate carnivores.

There is no valid argument for not eating meat, other than the environmental argument. The only reason that one is valid is because of overpopulation. So you may as well eat meat, unless you have some psychological aversion to it.

i don't want to start a discussion about ethics of eating meat, i just want to discuss the nutrition advantages or problems.

maybe vegans are more all around fit, cause they chose their food better. for example, there is a very limited number of vegan junk food available. and vegans are also overall more interested in health, so they maybe do more sports.

All of the vegans I know have to eat tons of junk food; where else are they going to get their calories? You seem to already have some presumptions about veganism and health.

Vegans do have to supplement. B12 is essential. There is no plant based source for B12. Animals eat feces when they're deficient. There are a number of other nutrients that are easier to get with animal food but a smart vegan will know where to get them. Aside from the junk food vegans, most are quite aware of their food sources, care deeply about their food and their health and probably exercise regularly. This is why they appear healthier. It doesn't matter what nutritional religion you follow, if you are aware of your food sources, care deeply about your food and your health and exercise regularly you will be healthier. It has nothing to do with the efficacy of your diet. It has to do with the lifestyle choices and your belief in the dietary choices. That's why arguing nutrition is like arguing religion or politics.
