So he met someone over a year after his wife died and remarried a little over a year later. About how long should he have waited after losing his wife before moving on with his life? Also, why is it any of your business and why should he care what you think?

He probably shouldn't care what I think, whether you mean ephs or Steiner.
There is no right length of time to wait. Perhaps I should be more understanding / sympathetic towards someone who is devasted by the loss of their wife and manages to recover and re-marry in a couple of years.

I'm likely projecting from personal experience

On related note, "we" tend to presume all tragedy made what we had before perfect. Every teacher who dies is the best ever, every marriage that ends thru death was destined to go on ad infintum. Some rotten people are murdered or die of cancer, too. I'm digressing and regressing perhaps

A marriage doesn't have to be perfect to last.

Also, it was once common for widowed people to remarry quickly (often out of neccessity). In fact, in some parts of the world it's still the norm.

Anyway, a year can be a long time when it concides with a major life change. Think about a college student in their first year away from home, or a young couple in the first year of a new relationship, or two new parents in their baby's first year of life. ... A lot can change in a year.

And just because a person who has lost a spouse has met someone else, doesn't mean that they have stopped grieving for the lost spouse. It's jut not that simple. And the new relationship probably won't be successful if the new person doesn't understand that.

But Ephs, what was your point in your original post? What connection do you infer between his winning Olympic gold and his wife's death over a year before? That it was more of an accomplishment for someone who had lost a spouse than it would be fore a person who hadn't? Hmm. I'm not sure that I'd buy that. It makes a nice human-interest story for the reporters, but I'm not sure that it's more than that. Many people would even use their training as a coping mechanism, so might even train harder in the weeks after the loss. Not everyone, but many would. I think I would.

i am just fascinated by this lift, cause i think that he did it for his dead wife. he knew that he has to lift more than he had ever lifted before. and because of his mental strength he lifted a new record. i think anybody could do that, but of course something like that just gets noticed from the world at the olympic games etc.

his whole biography is very interesing, cause he was austrian, but had problems there. and he only became german in he beginning of 2008 and then won the gold medal in august 2008 for germany.

Doc I think you have the disadvantage of not seeing the video. It posesses a huge emotional load, and atleast gives me the chills. The way he focuses and confronts the bar before the lift, and what kind of joy, happiness and achievement runs through his expressions and cheerings is just amazing. The back up story is just strengthening the emotions, as we all feel what he has pulled through. He lifted a huge PR, won olympic gold as he promised to his deceaced wife. So it just adds up. But it would show a great emotion without the story as well.
