I've wanted one for a while but now i'm preparing for a competition I figured it was justified. I've done all my heaviest lifts with no belt for years.

Been trying to hold off on getting one for as long as possible. I've used a belt about twice in my life. I felt a good bit stronger on the squat but it screwed up my deadlift although I realise it'll just take some getting used to.

Leave it one notch looser on the deadlift. For squat you want to be unable to breathe, but for dead you want it a bit looser.

Completed the Swimming test today. Also now I'm almost a cerftified swimming teacher, I just didn't care to do the written exam and pay money to some union. But anyway.

The test was no warm-up, just jump into the pool, rescue-style swimming for 25m, dive 10m for length, free-style swimming for 15m. Then you had to dive three times to the bottom of the 4m pool. Twice to get a ring, once your partner, who dropped to the bottom. I had to dive four times in total, because I dropped the ring on my way up. Then you had to drag your buddy for 50m on water.

4 minutes and 10 seconds. I'm ok with that. Was hard as hell.

Thanks! That's probably the simplest but best advice i've had on this. Also explains the issues I had when I tried a belt before. The guy I was training with told me to put it on tight and it felt great on the squat but in deadlift I felt it changed my form and encouraged me to round forward. Adjusting it one notch looser makes sense!

I've been lucky enough to see some spectacular meteors in my life, not during showers, but when I just happened to be looking up at the sky.

Once when I was 15 or so I was rolling newspapers in the cold pre-dawn morning and I saw a flash of light that seemed to rip the sky in half over maybe 30 degrees, all in a the barest fraction of a second.

So I don't normally go out at 1:00am to see a meteor shower, especially when its below freezing, but they said the Geminid would be a good one and I got no work tomorrow, so I figured I'd go see.

Nice! Saw three big "tumblers", meteors that last more than an eyeblink, cover a good distance, and actually slow down just before they wink out. Saw maybe a dozen of the eyeblink streakers.

You can barely see any stars in Belgium due to the light pollution, makes me jealous of you.

I got some northern lights in my backyard quite often, plus those stars too.

Went for my average-once-per-15-years checkup today and in defiance of all justice, fairness and karma I seem to be in pretty good health.

The doctor did mention that, if I were to fall dead of a heart attack on the way out after he told me I had all these in-the-norm measures, then he learned in medical school that he should turn me around so it looked like I was coming in.

Nice, I hope I'm going to see them at least once in my life.
