So let's say I decided to squat one plate, which is less than 50%, for a few sets of five every day except Sunday.

Then once/week on Squat Day I go heavier, but not even to 70%.

Maybe I do this for 8-12 weeks.

Is there a name for that? I got to wondering after reading a T-Nation article where he mentions doing lots and lots of reps solely to get form practice.

The link is here: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/the_600pound_deadlift_textbook

Kettlebell and bodyweigth expert Pavel Tsatsouline calls it greasing the groove. I quess you could call it whatever you like. Low intensity work suits well. Tehcnique work? Why does it need a name?

@Dub, yeah, greasing the groove works.

@Oscar, you have no idea.

I think it's called practice.

Seriously, that's all most high frequency, moderate-high volume, low-intensity work really is - getting better at something through repetition without doing it so intensely you can't recover.

I think of it as trying to get the most use out of a low weight instead of the getting the most weight out of my body. Lifting heavy is fun, but I've argued here before that you don't need to touch 90% plus very often to get strong.

Pete, yeah I agree, it's just practice.

I was actually asking the question just to find out if there was a common term, like HIIT, Bulgarian, 5/3/1 and other terms for programs.

But yeah, it's just practice.

I don't know of one. There are programs that do this - greasing the groove being one, lots of Olympic programs being others - but they come loaded with so much baggage. Use one and people assume you're doing the rest of the program.
