 Post subject: Rate my diet

I am a 17 year old male, 5'9", 170 lbs with a fairly high metabolism. This is my current meal plan for bulking:

Breakfast (6:15 AM)

3/4 cup oats
1 cup milk
1-2 cups egg beaters
1 apple

Morning Snack: (10:20 AM)

METrx Big 100 protein bar

Lunch: (1:20 PM)

2 slices wheat bread
2 slices provolone cheese
approximately 6 oz of sliced turkey breast/ chicken breast (not sure exactly. it's quite a bit though)
grapes (not sure exactly how much. quite a bit though)
optional: special k protein bar

Post workout (Around 4:30)

Muscle Milk 11 oz protein shake (premade)

Dinner (varies: anywhere from 5:00-7:30)

varies, i try to eat alot of meat, good amount of carbs, should probably eat more veggies.
sample: a lot of grilled chicken, pasta, salad

Evening Snack (varies: usually between (8:30-10:30)

Greek yogurt
almonds/bannana


Note: if i have a late dinner, i will eat another afternoon snack:
tuna packet
bananna, almonds, or greek yogurt



Note: I will often eat some sort of dessert in the afternoon or evening. My mom owns a bakery, and i'm still a kid, so its pretty hard to refuse. plus, my sister used to have an eating disorder, so if i stop eating dessert, my mom will think i have one too. do you think this is alright considering my age/ high metabolism/ activity level? Also, is it ok to eat 2 protein bars a day?

Multiple protein bars per day is fine. Your diet seems a little short on fats though. I also don't think that is enough food.

High metabolism means you need to eat more. If you're not growing, it may seem like you're eating a lot, but it's not enough. You may have mentioned it in previous posts but you also need to make sure you're training appropriately to give your body a reason to grow muscle.

As far as your veggie intake. Whenever I talk to a dietician or 'fitness guru' they get all giddy when I tell them I eat a 1 lb bag of steamed veggies once for lunch and once for dinner. I would at least increase that. The $0.99 steam bags with 1 lb of veggies at your local grocery store works pretty well to keep a measure on your intake.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to get some more veggies in and increase my overall caloric intake.

Isn't Muscle Milk expensive? Why not just use whole milk and protein powder?
