Re: How to Reduce weight in less time.
How about 3 squares per day with no snacking? I heard that as a kid in the 50's and is the main premise behind a book I read several years ago "mastering leptin" by Byron Richards. Is that old junk these days? Just curious....

What to eat with arthritis?
It's a bit confusing as some sites say to eat lots of spinach/greens, beans etc. and others say stay away from those foods, all night shades and too much protein etc. etc. I start out each day eating spinach w. a bit of bell pepper slivers, flax seed, 3oz canned salmon and a small amount of cultured...

Re: Rep range & other stuff for old goat...
There is evidence that strength training actually decreases pain. But don't do too much too fast. Pay attention to each lift. Keep notes. If you consistently have more pain after a certain lift, you'll need to find ways to modify that lift. Looks like you're right doc. I tried a squat and forward l...

Not at all, just don't drop before noon and drink lots of tang.

Kenny, you didn't sit around listening very carefully to "in da godda da vida" while looking at black light posters did you?

Re: Anyone take Glucosamine with MSN and does it work...
I've been taking kirkland glucosamine hci 1500mg (glucosamine hydrochloride) with msm(methylsulfonylmethane) 1500mg . Do you have better luck with other types of glucosame? In the top link above gucosame hydrochloride didn't fare well in the study, and of course thats what i've been taking.

Re: Anyone take Glucosamine with MSN and does it work...
Hey Stu, it sounds like bunk, as your mind can tell you anything. I've heard for years that if you think it will work, then it will. I've asked lots of people at Costco who are buying it and get about the same response; it works great! What do you think about fish oil? Some new stuff going around no...

Anyone take Glucosamine with MSN and does it work...
or is it just placebo? I took it for my hips for several months, but then stopped to check if it was working, and my knees started hurting! I had a little pain in one before, but not a whole lot at all and definitely not both. Kind of weird.

Re: Rep range & other stuff for old goat...
Lots of good advice here and i'm going to give most of it a try, but have a few questions. When a person has arthritis and bursitis in the hips and I believe some in my knees, should I try to slowly work through the pain like doing step ups, backword lunges etc., and could the problems get better th...

Re: Rep range & other stuff for old goat...
I can see I need to stop being so lazy and do a lot more reading as the reps can't stay the same. Having a bad back and not being able to do squats, dl's etc. makes the workout longer trying to accomplish the same thing but not really being able to. I will cut it down to compounds only, but will sti...

Re: Rep range & other stuff for old goat...
Thanks Kenny and Hoosecow, I'm guessing 10 rep range is ok? Most of the time I have to do 3 or 4 warm ups each for chest and shoulder press, with the rest mostly one warm up. As far as interval training, i'm not sure if that wouldn't be too much with walking 45min to an hour per day, stationary bike...

Re: Rep range & other stuff for old goat...
Lots of thoughts, Frank. The first is a question. What is your main goal? It appears that it is an overall level of cardio and strength fitness. Going off of that, my basic recommendation to you would be to shorten the rest between sets. The three minute rule is a general rule of thumb for strength...
