What's your work environment like? Being in an air-conditioned office all day breathing in recycled air can affect you. Also what do you eat and drink at work? Are you drinking enough water? How stressful is your job? There are many factors that could be contributing to your post-work exhaustion.
I think it's a great exercise and even though the movement is using only the shoulder joints, I would say it's a compound exercise because it hits the lats, chest and triceps. The triceps are more involved in the bent arm version because they are working in a stretched position.

Unfortunately since my last update i've recently been overseas for 4 weeks where I couldn't really workout and before that struggled to get back into my regular workout routine. I still haven't achieved my goals yet but will try to reach them by August. That gives me 3 months of hard work ahead.
Ideally, how long should a HIIT session last? I am only doing 20 minutes at the moment but am thinking of gradually increasing it to 30-40. And how often? Is 2 or 3 times a week enough? My primary goal is to lower my body fat. I'm also doing 2 weights sessions a week.
Amivan, just because you don't feel it doesn't mean that the muscle isn't being stimulated. You will probably feel it most in your weakest link. I sometimes do partial front squats to work the quads. There are many other exercises you could try also but keep the squat in your routine.

I've done the chins with feet on a bench. I used my squat rack with a bar but it didn't feel to safe. My kids got a swing set recently which has rings so I sometimes do the ring rows. It's not the same as the chins but it's easy to add some weight if you want to.
