Are you a body builder?

There’s no point in doing the same number of sets and reps every time. Why not reduce the weight and do 4 sets of 12 for a week, then increase the weight and do 2 sets of 4 the following week? The week after that, go back to you’re old weight and see if you can do if for 3 sets of 6. Also, most fore...

Skinny-manpower

OK, I broke a finger a few months ago, took a long break from lifting heavy, lost 10 lbs, and just got back into it. I’ve been doing a modified “super squat” type of routine to try and put the weight back on. Here are my recent numbers: 72.5 inches, 170lbs Bench- 230 x 1 Squat 205 x 20 Deadlift- 325...

This is probably more than you wanted:

I don’t understand your split. You aren’t doing an upper/lower, or a push/pull split. You seem to have randomly thrown exercises together into two non full-body routines. Personally, I think three strength-training sessions is plenty, but if you are only doing it three times per week, you don’t need...

10/21/2007 My friend bailed on the Frisbee golf game today, so I brought my dog for company while I golfed alone. The problem was that my dog kept bringing the disks back to me. On the tea-off shots, and midrange drives, the disk goes far enough that I can’t see where it lands. Obviously I can’t out...

If I were you…

I think that the “low volume, progressive intensity” article on this site is a little outdated. I wouldn’t do any less than two sets. I would also agree with the previous poster that you might be better off starting of with full body routines rather than splitting them. For the time being however, i...

all of the above

I guess I would say general fitness is the priority. There a lot of components with in general fitness, I think. As such, my priorities are functional strength, aesthetics, and cardiovascular health, in no particular order.

Tradelessjack log comments

Wow, after reading some of the other logs I’ve realized that some of you are very advanced lifters. I’d appreciate and comments or constructive criticism anyone would like to give.

Tradelessjack’s log.

Male, 27, 6’0”, 180 I’ve been working out for a long time, but for 7 years I was doing a very typical ineffective beginner workout (Too many machines, not enough compound movements, and too much upper-body). I’ve been doing a lot of research and reading on exercise and fitness for the last few month...

don't worry about getting bulky

Getting really bulky isn't something you do on accident. It isn't as if you lift heavy for a few months and all of the sudden you can't fit through doorways. If you are trying to get that big, it takes both a workout routine that is conducive adding a lot of mass, and a deliberate effort to eat most...

losing/gaining fat vs muscle

So, they say that to lose a pound, we need to create 3500-calorie deficit in our diet, conversely we would need to create a 3500-calorie surplus to gain a pound. Fat, of course, is comprised mostly of fat. There are 9 Kcal/gram of fat x 28.34 grams in an ounce x 16 ounces in a pound = 4081 calories ...

Where you talking to me?

Oh and deadlifts, over shrugs????? The info in this site only identifies shrugs as an upper trap excercise so I haven't been including them into any routine. Where would they fit better on the leg day? Just to clear things up, I suggested that the smith shrugs you listed as part of your routine are...

Too much isolation.

I think you would gain much more bulk in the shoulders if you were to use compound motions and heavier weights. In trying to isolate each part of your shoulders, you are often using only 50, 20, or even 10 pounds at a time. From a physics standpoint, you are not getting much work (force x distance) ...
