Buy Olympic bar and rubber coated weights?
I did some Olmypic lifting last month and plan to carry on training at home. I already have a 7 foot standard bar, so just need some bigger discs - I think. Are standard size rubber coated discs (like the Bodymax Standard Rubber Weight Plates) OK for Olympic lifts, specifically for dumping the bar? ...

Re: Free screening - Food Matters
I think that there is a lot to be said for this. Many of the conditions which affect people in the developed world are unknown in many counties (such as heart disease, diabetes and other weight related issues). A healthy, low GI diet with plenty of exercise (or activity may be a better word for it) ...

Re: Ways to get out of Bed
I think that the main trick is to get enough sleep.
Or do what I did, have kids!
I cannot seem to exercise in the mornings though. I try running and it seems my body just does not want to respond to my demands. In the evening I seem to be a bit looser.

Kettlebell Training?
I have been tempted to give kettlebells a try for a while. I have done weight training on and off for many years, also did a lot of martial arts. Fancy a go at KBs as it looks fun and will fit in with my home workout routine (all I do now). So, should I just get a 16kg bell and follow some videos, o...

The thing that annoys me about "calories" is that they are not calories, but kilocalories (or rather stupidly, Calories). We do not say grams instead of kilgrams or metres instead of kilometres, so why drop the kilo from kilocalorie? 1 kilocalorie (kcal) = 1 Calorie (Cal) = 1000 calories (cal) At le...

Funny as I am sure that I read that artificial sweeteners certainly used to contain something carciogenic, but pretty sure that the producers have found a less harmful ingredient now. Going back to the tea, not all green tea is equal. With a good green tea you do not need to add anything to make it ...

It is really annoying that there have been no scientific trails on those that are already fit and have been strength training for a while. However, there have been plenty of studies that have concluded that lifting heavier makes you stronger - it makes sense really. How could lifting 50kg in trainin...

Have you tried "Hindu press ups" aka Chinese? We do them in kung-fu training, good for building strength in the ribs too. Second video here: http://www.motleyhealth.com/fitness_and ... h-workouts

I think that they are just an different way to work the body. Adds a bit of spice to the standard routine. If everyone was doing kettlebells, then a few people would ask "what are these dumbbells that I see people using, why do they sue them?" I think that kettles allow for a more dynamic workout, w...
