Is this the machine where you sit and raise your leg?
This isn't a natural movement. I'm guessing you're overloading yourself and you're contorting your back trying to lift heavier.
If you really want to do quad exercises, do the leg press or squats.

Re: Stay home Stay safe!
We understand that people are getting antsy. But intimidating your state legislature and healthcare workers (who will ultimately be caring for you) ain't gonna make Covid-19 go away.

Re: New to the website and just getting a feel for this new style of training
Over the years no matter how many variations and other accessories I do I've always gravitated back to the basic barbell exercises.

Are back exercises missing
I've concentrated on doing the big barbell exercises for all my sessions: squat, deadlift, bench press and lately I've added overhead press and bent over row. I've added the BO row because I had read in another discussion all those pushing exercises need to be balanced with pulling exercises AND all...

IP address permanently banned
I am travelling right now and am in Hong Kong. A couple of days ago I was in my friend's office where he has his own secured business network. When I logged on with my laptop and checked the ExRx discussions, I got a notice saying I was permanently banned. It said the same thing on my phone, which I...

Weight Training in high school
I was thinking the other day how helpful the internet has been in my learning how to do weight lifting exercises properly. I was never introduced to these exercises in high school during the late 1970s. In fact during my entire high school gym classes we only used the weight room once. The last I ...

Am I doing too little?
Since getting mild tendonitis of the left shoulder, I’ve replaced my bench press with dumbbell presses. I met a person at the gym whom I’ve known many years ago at another gym. He’s sort of become my free personal trainer. He told me not to do the squat and the deadlift in the same session, which is...

Re: number of reps per set.
I have done 12/10 and 8. I have also done 3/3/3. 5/5/5 seems to be the happy medium for me. Not too light and lot too heavy but challenging enough. Sounds dumb but I don't like doing 12/10/8 just because I don't want to count that high except on my warmup with an empty bar and that's up to 15. When ...

Re: Shoulder injury, can't do pullup?
This sounds like what I am currently suffering from. I have a rotator cuff injury. Doctor said it wasn’t too bad so I am not seeing a physiotherapist. What happened was that my bench press was failing. The left shoulder felt like it was going to fall off. I felt some sort of clicking in there. And t...

bench press for old guys
I'm 53. A fellow at the gym, who is 58, says guys in their 50s should not be doing bench presses. He says to do dumbell presses instead because the hand position and the movement isn't good for the tendons and joints in the shoulders. The natural motion should be for the hands to be parallel with th...

Re: Shoulder Problem
I had tendonitis of the shoulder once. I couldn't do the squats because I could not hold on to the bar with my right hand. Went to a physiotherapist twice weekly for a good part of a year.
I'm ok now.
Why don't you see a physiotherapist?

Re: Full squatting just bad form?
I noticed that my atg squatting has changed the way I bicycle uphill. Previously I would climb simply by using my quads to push the pedals. Now I'm feeling my a.$s has kicked in too as I position my body feeling almost as if I were squatting low.

Re: Locking out/Deep squat bad for knees?
When I was getting pain at the knees I was worried if I really was injuring them but I really wanted not to believe that. So I went on-line to look for why I was getting pain. I ran across the Asian Squat. So I practiced it for a while at home for a few days before going back to the gym. It's easier...

Re: The mixed grip deadlift problem
For me the grip is the limiting factor of the deadlift. The first time I did the DL, boy did my forearm ache. I kept massaging them between sets. By the time I did it again a few days later, my arms didn`t hurt so much. But usually I can DL at my heaviest weights until the bar slips off my fingers e...

Re: Funny stuff seen in the gym
Already posted in another thread, I'll just repeat that the funny things I've seen are where people hang on to the treadmill. I've seen people holding and pushing down on the side rails and running like hell with their legs moving at lightning speed. The same can be said of those moving stairs. What...
