New gym! Huzzah!

I'm excited by my new gym. I've been going to a pretty traditional commercial gym for the last four years or so. Yesterday I tried out the local university gym. It has: 4 squat racks. 3 or 4 lifting platforms. Bumper plates. Chalk! Dedicated stands, near a step (for step-ups). Plus all the usual mac...

Process Engineer here. I design coal preparation plants.

I'm guessing Poly is also some kind of engineer, based on his tendency to analyse everything to the nth degree ...

5 sets of 10

I would need a paramedic on hand with a defibrilator.

Saw a girl training dead lifts yesterday. Full proper dead lifts from the floor with good form. Then she did bulgarian split squats and step-ups. Awesome.

Let's just say her program seemed to be doing the job ...

No I'm trying to gain, but whilst I acknowledge that fat gain is inevitable, I'd like to minimise it as much as possible.

I don't normally have non-artificially sweetened soda but that was all that was left in the machine.

I have a KFC chicken breast as a post-workout meal. Thinking of upping it to two.

After Doc's insulin post, I'm thinking that I shouldn't have had the can of soda with the 100g of salami that I just had.

KPj, I did the same thing a while back. It took ages to get better but got there in the end. At least 4 weeks.

I jammed it in-between joints, it just felt like it was bruised but it was sore for weeks.

My understanding is no, not important for a beginner if you are doing some kind of dead lift. None of the beginner full body programs have them, anyway.

Frog, even alternating grip will give you a benefit if you don't want to go straight to hook grip. Also after a period of doing straight leg dead lifts, when I came to back to conventional, my grip was much stronger due to the additional "time under tension" for my grip on the SLDLs. So that could b...

If it were me, I'd probably take a couple of weeks off squats but continue with other lifts. Then try squats again but may start at 10-25% lower weight than your last workout and work up again. If the pain is still there, see a physiotherapist. 20 rep squats ... can't personally think of anything wo...
