Re: Exercise speed/tempo

I'm not sure if slow movement builds the most muscle. If its been proven it does, then so be it. If its just some bodybuilder dogma without any basis, when then I'm gonna stand proud :green: . Is muscle mass your primary goal? I always do pull ups in quickly, because I feel its the most practical mo...

Re: Exercise speed/tempo

I see all of your references are for upper body movements. Are you lifting with your legs at all? Just curious

Re: Back Injury Rehabilitation

I'm not really sure, but maybe really LIGHT deadlifts for the time being? I am sure if you googled back injury rehabilitation there would be a bunch of literature on the subject.

Re: Exercise speed/tempo

I think it depends on your goals. I do controlled, but hardly ever slow reps. I do what I consider "normal" - which, if comparing deadlift and lifting a box up from the ground for instance, is literally at the same speed, probably a second. That's what makes the most sense to me. Of course, some lif...

Isometric vs dynamic...and explosive power as well

I have a couple of questions regarding the "sphere" of lifting exercises...why does dynamic dominate over isometric based training? Is it more effective? I realize most lifts use some sort of isometric muscle use even when the lift is dynamic...but wouldn't an isometric-based workout be closer to re...

Re: Is squat and deadlift replacable trough isolation?

Recently I've gotten into kettlebell swings. I do wonder what the long term joint implications are for heavy squats and dead lifts. I feel like explosive exercises like the swing, or snatches and cleans might be "safer" as far as joint safety is for the long term. Anyone have an opinion on this? I'm...

Shoulder mobility issues...when doing pull ups

Been awhile but I've recently started getting back into pull ups. I do have some issues with them though - specifically if I drop all the way hanging before the next rep. I hadn't done pull ups in awhile but I know I have nagging shoulder issues from years of improper weightlifting techniques. To ma...

Is splitting up a workout during the day...

Beneficial, harmful, or inconsequential? Just curious cause for example I might have to schedule things where around 1pm I do deadlifts, and then later on in the evening, say 6pm, I do bench presses. Seems like it would be inconsequential but ya never know...

Re: Gun Control

Oh facebook...lol. I have unliked a celebrities facebook page due to the fact it was constant barrage of political posts...but disliking or "unfriending" people because they have a difference of opinion on an issue seems pretty unamerican!

Re: Gun Control

I bought my first rifle at the beginning of the year...just a .22lr bolt action to go target shooting with. I have yet to be able to find ammo for it anywhere. Now, granted I'm not up at the crack of dawn being as proactive as I could be looking for it, but still, I have been somewhat looking withou...

Re: Gun Control

I think it has a lot to do with timing. The president largely avoided the topic of gun control durring his first term, because it's a politically risky subject. Even after major mass-shootings, he kept pretty quiet. However, in his second term he's no longer concerned with winning re-election, and ...

Re: Gun Control

We need guns for the coming zombie apocalypse of course! In all seriousness, I do believe a societal collapse is more probable than a violent revolution. At least, within the next 5 to 10 years. Perhaps a cyber terrorist attack that leaves vast amounts of cities crippled without power or something. ...

Re: Gun Control

I am starting to wonder why gun control has become the main issue in politics over the last two months. I mean the obvious answer is the sandy hook shooting, and not trying to dismiss that event because it was absolutely horrendous beyond belief, but there have been plenty of bad mass shootings in t...

Re: Gun Control

It is a little contradictory, but the reason the police have them is because the "bad guys" already have them and if they used more basic firearms they would potentially be at a disadvantage. Of course, after reading how many "assault rifles" are actually used in crimes, I would even question that. ...
