Re: Thoughts on opening a crossfit gym in germany
I'm not a fan of Crossfit for the reasons mentioned earlier. That said, the marketing they do over here in the US is fantastic. I can see where it might be beneficial to have the name of a recognized brand on your business. It's just like buying a McDonalds or other franchise (they call themselves a...

Re: broken collar bone (clavicle) rehab/ prevention
Good news. I AM NOT A PHYSICAL THERAPIST OR ANY OTHER SORT OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL so take this advise for what it's worth. I separated my AC joint, tore my labral cartilage, my proximal bicep tendon, and had extensive damage to my brachial plexus a few years ago (nerve damage). Bad things happen...

I second what Peter said. Find something competitive. For me, it's strongman. I know that somewhere there is some guy who is training to beat me. I train my @$$ off to not let that happen.

Re: Venturing into Coaching Beginners
I do the same thing Peter does. I start with goblet squats. They actually tend to pick up those quicker than bodyweight squats. the counter balance will force them into a proper position. We then progress them with hip hinge's and into a trap bar deadlift. Also, realize that most of the kids I work ...

Read an article on T-nation yesterday or day before, all about complex interactions of mTor (I think), testosterone, and as far as I know, blood sodium levels and the healing powe...

Re: Owning a weight, cleaning up form, perfect practice
I figured I'd go ahead and weigh in on this. If my goal is to hit a 1rm, my plan looks like this: I hit as many singles, with perfect technique, as I can at 95% for week one (keep in mind I always underestimate my max) Week two: As many single as I can at 97.5%, hopefully matching week ones #'s Week...

Re: Fitness chess set
And if chess had a piece that was more powerful than the queen, stronger than the pawns, smarter than the knights and rooks, and better looking than the king, it would be a strongman competitor.

Re: Squats for Rats
Thank you for providing this valuable piece of research. I think my next gym purchase will be cattle prod. I'm already visuallizing it. We could start doing rack bottom squats. We'll load up the bar and let them set up under it. We'll have HUGE squats in no time!

I don't have a whole lot of experiance with PTonthenet, but I would highly reccomend strengthcoach.com. The membership is like $9 per month and some of the top coaches, PT's, and Chiro's post there.

Re: Random crap
I'm stealing this thought but it's stuck with me since I heard/read it and adds to my fury of fads. Why doesn't anyone do Dumbbell courses? Can I become a certified Dumbbell instructor? Can I call myself a Dumbbell Specialist? Don't get me wrong, I love kettlebells and wish I had more access to the...

Re: Tips on becoming a good (hopefully great!) instructor/PT
I agree with the posts above and though I'd add these: - Get good at sales. The sooner you realize this is a sales job, the better off you'll be. - Get good at teaching the basic exercises before worrying about anything fancy. Learn to teach the squat, press, pull, and hinge. Then, learn to progress...

Exactly what Doc said. I've got space limitations at my gym so we just have people hook their heels under the dumbell rack and do them that way.
