Re: Need help creating a workout.

Don't really enjoy excersice. I'd rather be out in my shop or taking pictures. So this is really a necessary evil for me. Of coarse weight training is hard work, your lifting heavy things and putting stress on your body. I would just caution you that your workout has to be challenging in order to m...

Re: Statins and Exercise.

Considering I had a heart attack at 34 and have lived to be 51 so far, I think I'll keep taking mine. Had a lot of problems with while lifting but I have adopted. Started seeing a new cardiologist and he's giving me a few things to that help ease the effect and now I don't feel any abnormal pain. I ...

Re: inguinal hernia

Hey Doc, No I didn't know it was there, and I haven't had any pain. I had a physical last year and he didn't find it then. I was just kind of thrown back when he said not to go lifting any piano's, and I'm thinking dead lifts are harder than lifting a piano. I'm going to take your advice and keep li...

inguinal hernia

Went to the doc for my physical and the doc said I had a small inguinal hernia. I asked him if I could keep lifting and he said sure as long as I don't lift a piano, well as it is I do like to lift heavy on squats and deads and bench and press... He said I could also go ahead and get the surgery if ...

Re: exercise for cutting and knee problem

I substituted regular dead lifts with trap bar dead lifts when I started having some back (and age) issues. There's not much to worry about form wise, just "push your heels through the floor", it works well for me. Its just a thought. It really doesn't work your back as conventional dl's so I'll do ...

Re: Box squat vs. conventional squat

roberscott- I just made mine using 4x4 for legs and a couple pieces of ply wood. I had some old horse trailer matting that was about 3/4" thick that I cut up some squares and use that for adjustment of the height.

Re: Box squat vs. conventional squat

Hoos- I switched to box squats in my 5-3-1 but I still do squats as an accessory on deadlift day, (4 or 5 sets of 8-10 at 60-65%) The squats do feel a lot easier. Another thing I did was I would start lowering my box a little every wave, started out at parallel and now I'm down ~1 - 1.5 inches. I co...

Re: A simple thought on Intermediate Programs

Clip, Wendler says you should be lifting 2 years before doing it. I think that makes it advanced. . Ken, I don't think that is true,a s I recall he says it works for all stages, I think he even says beginners have had successes with it. I'll look through the manual again when I get a chance but it ...

Something that helped me was fish oil, It might not work for you but it certainly doesn't hurt to add it to your diet.

Good luck

Re: Good article...

Great article, yep some big words, but just confirms what a lot of us older lifters believe, I have said for years that weight training was the "fountain of youth". Its too bad more older people I know don't heed this. I wonder about the mental aspect of lifting and its positive effects on the brain...

Re: Elbow Support

I wrap my right elbow every time I lift with an ace bandage. I use it to avoid further injury when loading weights ect.
I guess I have tendonitis in both elbows but the right ones worse.

Probably too many skull crushers when I was young, unfortunately that's one exercise I'll never do again.
