Re: Hate to bring up foam rolling, but...

I'm not an expert on foam rolling but do use it to work my muscles. I don't do it everyday but whenever I'm feeling tight or there's some muscle soreness not even from working out I use it. They are great and do work things out nice. I don't see how using it to just massage a muscle would be harmfu...

Hate to bring up foam rolling, but...

Hey guys, I know foam rolling/SMR is something of on-going debate so I hate to bring it up on everyone's mind this close to the holidays. I always seem to get good advice through this forum when I need it and since I can't find any information to answer my question, I came here. I've had tight muscl...

Suggestions for good Dynamic stretch resource

Can anyone suggest some good resources that I might find a good list of Dynamic stretches to choose from? I've started to do a little dynamic stretching before my workouts but I don't know more than a few dynamic stretches to do.

Is Endurance Exercise for Back still just theory?

I've read that optimal lower back and spine health comes from increasing the endurance of deep-back and abdominal muscles. You don't need rest days between the lower-back workouts since endurance is more important than strength. Is this all just theory? Would it change anything found in programs a l...

Re: Stretching to Improve Flexibility & Reduce Injury

By the way, between dynamic stretching, activation exercises, warm-ups and everything else where would SMR technique & foam rolling enter (should I decide to start)? Is it just a matter of what feels right? That is to say, do you do the foam rolling stuff a specific # of times each week or would the...

Re: Stretching to Improve Flexibility & Reduce Injury

1) I usually do a more formal warm-up with the weight exercises I'm performing that day (50% workout weight, around 12 reps, etc.). Is there an added benefit to dynamic stretching in addition to that? I thought they served the same purpose. 2) Mayo Clinic says stretching without "warm" muscles may l...

Stretching to Improve Flexibility & Reduce Injury

I have to sit in a chair a lot during the day and so my muscles begin to cramp and my whole body begins to feel stiff overall. I'm going to be heading back to the gym soon so I would like a way to stay limber throughout the week since I spend so many hours sitting down. I would like to improve my fl...

Re: Calculating Avg. Watts on Elliptical

All the machines I use already give me the amount of METS so I won't need to convert that.

Re: Calculating Avg. Watts on Elliptical

The shorthand training log provided in the aerobic section of this website uses watts, minutes, and miles in the shorthand training log. The amount of time I run doesn't often change since I use the PACE guidelines which can be found as a .pdf on Google by searching "Progressively Accelerating Cardi...

Calculating Avg. Watts on Elliptical

Hello, During the summer I always recorded the average watts for the duration of my cardio workout on the elliptical as part of my plan to keep track of my progress. When I returned to the university though I realized that the ellipticals here don't record the average watts. Is there a way I can cal...

Ha. Sorry, now that I think about it the context of the word "strength" probably doesn't make sense here. Thanks for the answers guys!

Motion on the Elliptical:Strength vs Cardio

Hey guys, In the gym I've noticed that people like to go both backwards and forwards when using the elliptical and I've been told that it helps to work different muscles of the body. I use the elliptical as a substitute for running on a treadmill or something similar. Simply put, I use an elliptical...

Re: New Cardio/Workout Plan: What do you think?

Does the PACE program utilize a cool down period after its initial workout program? Most cardio workouts include about a 5 minute cool-down afterwards and some even include a warming-up phase.
