Re: Stress and exercise?

Just thought I'd post an update here in case anyone was curious..... Well, I am less than one month out from my first half marathon. I feel good about it, so good in fact that I registered for a 10K event the weekend before. About 3 weeks ago I ran the 10K course and a 14.6 mile run within 4 days of...

Re: Power Cleans technique?

I think I may have figured it out! I need much more practice for this to feel like a natural movement but I'm getting there. Doing more of a high pull is helping tremendously! Thanks to all for the help.

Re: Power Cleans technique?

I dont' know if focusing just on the high pull portion will be detrimental to eventually incorporating the final stage, but at least you can work on getting the bar high without reverse curling. I like high pulls and posted video for help. I've worked to eliminate similar issues noted, like throwin...

Power Cleans technique?

Hey all, I recently started incorporating power cleans into my workout. I am struggling a bit with proper technique I think. I have watched a few videos of the proper execution but I think I am still struggling. I have the initial phase of the lift down I believe, just pulling from the floor as in a...

Re: Tough Mudder in October: Need a training Plan

Thanks for the info. The Run will be the hardest for me and is where I need to focus most of my attention. Sadly, last week we had great weather, Sunny, Unseasonally warm, but I was down and out with a Bad Cold/Virus. This week, it's cold, damp, and snowing. Arrgghhhhh cliff Don't let the weather s...

Re: Stress and exercise?

I always though that pacing between sets was how you were supposed to get your cardio. You must be going to a Planet Fitness or something. Don't frighten the cardio bunnies. Pretty close to Planet Fitness (I think, never been to one). It used to be a Gold's Gym and it was decent then. Now it is cal...

Re: Stress and exercise?

Often I pace like a big cat in a cage while I visualize my next set. I think I'd be much more likely to drift doing traditional cardio, since it's not very intense. I'm pretty sure that the pacing like a big cat would get me tossed from the gym I go to unfortuantely. They really frown on working ou...

Re: Stress and exercise?

first I'm "happy" for your metamorphasis Unfortunately, we will miss you We have no place here for prioritizing long distance running and a glorified game of twister, over the brute force manliness that moving heavy stuff promotes. good luck. Haha  I can still move around some "fairly" heavy s...

Re: Stress and exercise?

Just an update for anyone who may care....... I have turned a corner! Over the last month and a half or so I have reevaluated my exercise program goals. Previously I went into the gym to lift heavy weights and get stronger. When I could no longer do that due to external stressors I started to wonder...

Re: Stress and exercise?

KPj, thanks so much for the thoughtful response. I hope that your sh!t clears up for you as well. The biggest problem I am having is that I try to mentally convince myelf that being at the gym and working out is the best thing for me and I try to channel all the frustration into the workout but I am...

Re: Stress and exercise?

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I understand how that feels and depression can make you completely weak and depleted. I recommend doing lighter exercises. I'm not sure if your into this sort of thing, but have you tried yoga? It can be soothing and reduce stress and anxiety. Good luck. Than...

Re: Stress and exercise?

I'd say don't keep hammering away at exercises that have become frustrating. Do something new, and don't try to progress anything too fast. Think of lifting as an outlet. Good call on the therapist and the doctor. You already have some of what are called "vegetative" signs, that indicate that depre...

Unfortunately I do not think so. My marital status might be changing despite my desire for it to remain as is......

Didn't really want to come out and say it but, there it is.

Stress and exercise?

Hey everyone. I am currently in the middle of a very stressful life changing event. I am having trouble developing an appetite, having trouble sleeping and very little desire to do much. I have scheduled appointments with a therapist and my general doctor. I am wondering if I should even be attempti...

Re: Found this workout what do you think?

I like to listen to my body I do much better when I go in with that attitude than go in with a set goal of adding a certain amount of weight for a certain amount of reps. I just wanted to comment on this a little.... I am somewhat the same way in this regard. Sometimes I feel like it holds me back ...
