Re: Life with torn ACL

I tore my ACL about 6 years ago and had fixed. I would highy recommend that you do as well given your age and that you are active and want to remain active.

Re: program complete?

I would suggest a good beginner 5x5 program. Either Starting Strength (SS) or Strong Lifts (SL). As for the question about squats and deadlift, they are both excellent compound lifts. I prefer to do deadlifts only once a week and for only 1x5 and every 3rd week do 5x5. They seem to tax me more then ...

I to have long arms and it is more comfortable for me to not go down all the way. I think all us long arm and leg people need to stick together. I am tired of short limb people telling me about ROM when they only move the weights half the distance that me and my long limb brothers lift. Raise those ...

The Press

When doing the press, I notice that I do not lower the bar all the way to my chest. I only lower the bar so that the top part of the bar is below my chin. My question then, is this cheating? I have seen many people who press up when the bar barely clears their eye brows. For me, its just more comfor...

No it is not a one time thing and yes I do keep a log. I do not however record my warmups. Squat seems to require, at least for me, more warm up sets then any of my other lifts. Was interested in how others approach their warm up for squats.

Squat Warmup

Today I went to the gym and was squatting and noticed that by my last set (doing 5x5) I felt the best. The weight seemed lighter and I was as deep or even deeper then my pervious sets. So my question is does this mean I should do more warm ups? What do you do for your warm up and how does this compa...

I am an engineer and view the body like a machine. The basic law of conservation of mass comes to mind. If you take in X but burn Y, you are left with X-Y. When Y is larger than X you reduce your mass. When its bigger well then you gain mass. I am sure there is some sort of prority as to what part o...

@ KPj: That is exactly what I am talking about. I to am driven nuts by people who come into the gym and have little intensity. I could care less about the weight you lift but have huge respect for those that put in the effort. And I know exactly what you are referring to regarding "grunting". I have...

I too suffered a similar injury and it took me about 4 days of 300 mg of ibuprophen x 4 times a day for 4 days for me to feel better. Also had to rest it completely during that time. Best of luck!

I second the call for a vid! Squat of 365 lbs would put you between advanced and elite for a BW of 148 lbs making you very much an immortal or at least a demi-god.

INTENSITY

When you are working out there are a few things we can control. The program or type of lifts, the volume (sets x reps), and the weight. The other, often over looked element, is the intensity. I sometime wonder when reading posts about people struggling with a lift that maybe they are not bringing th...
