Stomach Upset

Has anyone got any tips on coming back from illness? I've recently missed the best part of two weeks traning because of a stomach upset. I'm eating properly again now and did some light cardio today but was a bit concerned by my lack of vigor. Do you just need to keep it light until you feel some st...

Re: Eating Fat

Thanks everyone, I started training to lose weight and therefore very much got into the mindset of avoiding fat entirely. Now I'm 3 stone lighter I'm trying to move more towards general fitness with a bias towards lifting weight, however I've struggled to get my nutrition thinking out of weight loss...

Eating Fat

How do people approach fat in their diets? Do you just try an avoid it as much as possible or if you do actively incorperate into your diet what sources do you try and get it from? For example does the fat content in something like cheese outweight the benefits it may have in terms of protein\calciu...

Shoulder Press

Is there much difference between doing shoulder press to the chest and doing it behind the neck? I tend to switch between the two doing one rep to the chest and the next rep behind the neck etc.

Re: Coping missing training

Thanks everyone, all good advice.

I know I'm prone to being a bit obsessive about training, every now again I need to get a bit of perspective.

Coping missing training

I hardly ever miss a traning session, but if I have too beacuse of illness or work etc I often beat myself up over it. So I can try and get a sense of perspective, how much training would you have to miss before you started to see losses in muscle mass/strength/fitness? How do the rest of you cope w...

Re: Bent over row grip

It's not that I'm struggling with the normal grip I just thought I might feel more comfortable with the alternate grip. As I suspected it's probably not a good idea but thought I may as well ask the question.

Re: Working your back

Thanks everyone, I think maybe I just went too heavy on the deadlifts and bent over row. I'll put my ego to one side and drop it down a bit I think.

Bent over row grip

Is it advisiable to do bent over row with an alternate grip as you might with deadlifts or would this create an inbalance? I do deadlifts with this grip and always feel I have a more solid grip on the bar.

Re: Working your back

Is the pain you're feeling in your spine or in the musculature of your upper and/or lower back? Some muscle soarness is normal. Spine pain isn't. The discomfort is in the middle of the back either side of the spine. It isn't constant it's only when I have cause to use my back muscles. I feel it whe...

Working your back

I've recently started doing 5x5 and feeling it a lot in my back, my question is how do you tell the difference being feeling a bit stiff in your back because you've worked it hard or pain beacuse you're doing it some damage. I wouldnt describe the feeling in my back as pain, more stiffness or mild d...

Squating Solo

I train at home on my own and have started now concentrating on the big 5. The only thing I have problems with is squats. I'm limited in what weight I can use as I have to get the weight on and off my shoulders. At the moment it's probably not a massive problem but at some point my legs are going to...

Re: When to change a routine?

bjwuk, but don't expect that you can increase weights with every workout! If that was the case, then for ten years, you would lift tons in squats. You should work in cycles. I appreciate that there is a limit to what you can lift, I only mentioned weight in my original post beacuse I wanted to make...
