Re: 5/3/1 template

Well, I'll be playing Saturdays and Sundays, lots of running as you might imagine. I don't know how to qualify the intensity; its a competitive league, many teams are comprised of former division I soccer athletes, and our team ordinarily finishes in the top 3. the goals inquiry is a good question. ...

5/3/1 template

I know, you're probably tired of these questions by now but perhaps you can help with one more... Been running 5/3/1 with some success, put approx 50 lbs on all lifts. anyway, i'm going to start soccer season soon, both outdoor and indoor, and am wondering which template i should use while im in sea...

Triceps Extensions

Little pressed for time so sorry if this post is rushed... what are the disadvantages to doing the standing/sitting dumbell extension starting from behind the head and extending until the arms are straight over head as opposed to the tradition lying extensions you see on training logs such as those ...

Thanks for the tips guys--and for not bruising my ego doc ;)--I'll buy a pair and see how I like them.

Many thanks.

Benching/Pressing with Wraps

Forgive me if this topic exists in the depths somewhere, I searched for it but didn't really find what I'm looking for. Another qualifier... I'm by no means putting up some of the numbers as other members on this site, that fact might answer my question. Here's my question. For those using wrist wra...

Re: Push / Pull Squat & Deadlift question

deads are posterior chain (back, glutes, hams) dominant. there are some mitigating factors such as how many reps you do, recovery, training age, what your other exercises look like, and though quads are used in deads, you wont be hitting them near as hard when you dl. without knowing all of the abov...

Re: Staying Tight

I feel, perhaps like yourself, I'm half internet taught, half just go in and figure things out on my own taught. So take what I say with a grain of salt, I make no claims as being as experienced as others on this site. That being said, there's alot of prep to keep in mind when setting up for a lift ...

Re: Anyone use foam rollers...

I've used it a little. I really need to start doing more of that though. I bought one with dvd a few years ago, and used it about 3 times, but pain was a bit intense and I put it away. I'm guessing you have to use it a while before the pain in using it gets standable? I noticed the same thing when ...

Re: Anybody ever superset with maximum strength intensity?

I do something like this and Wendler has mentioned he does chin/pullups between every core movement work set (i'm not sure if he was being 100% truthful rather than emphasizing balance with pushing movements). I'm do 5-3-1 along with what seems like 90% of this board and below is what i do regarding...

Re: enough for proper chest development?

As robert said, i wouldnt do this but i also hate flyes (sp?). if youre gonna do a bodybuilding type routine for chest i'd rotate dips, db press, db incline, and db decline, and if you like flyes, keep those too ohp/military works the upper pecs but they assist the delts, so dont expect to get modes...

Re: Deloading

Some light weight, low rep work is good as are bodyweight exercises. No one wants to do deload, they think their body doesnt need it. And maybe theyre right, but believe me even if youre not putting up big numbers your body will thank you and you'll come back stronger. There's a reason PL'ers deload...

Re: What's up with rear delts?

Yea that video was really helpful, thanks for posting that. That wide stance aspect is good to know, my narrower stance probably accounted for some of my jerking torso. And i agree with the last poster about pulley height, that pulley in the video looks ideal for FP's, the one at my gym has it comin...

Re: What's up with rear delts?

I love facepulls - but I tend to find I still lift quite light with them. What sort of weight are you pulling for heavy? We have a great machine at the gym which I use to do real light, focused, rear delt work. I like doing one hand rear delt work too. I'm not sure if it would qualify 'heavy' for o...

Re: What's up with rear delts?

I'm a big believer in heavy, high volume facepulls. I do 4 sets of 15 or so between deadlifts on dl days. You'll also notice your lower traps developing with this exercise too. my upper back feels much more solid since i started doing these.

Re: Sanity Check

I'm on the same program, though on mesocycle 4 and I'll tell you how I would approach your quandry: take out the assistance lifts that are killing you. Aside from making gains and setting PR's, the whole program is supposed to be fun. I don't think any lifter takes Wendler's advice when, in the book...
