Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Yeah I know it looks a little weird and a bit much. If I am having a terrible day I sometimes skip one or two the assistance exercises. Also by doing most of them as supersets it keeps the weight down on them so I am lifting hard but not at the edge of not getting things done (the bodyweight stuff -...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I think I am basically doing the "normal" 5/3/1. Here are my exercises. The main lift for that day is first and follows the 5/3/1 format. The assistance exercises were chosen either to give me more practice on a particular exercise (to help keep form good) or becau...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Thanks again for the comments -- more things to think about. I guess I am misunderstanding the + sets in the program. I thought you were supposed to do as many as you could without missing a rep. If I don't think I can do a rep I don't start it. I'll have to read more on this topic. It's kind of tou...

Re: Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

Thanks I was thinking of a lesser reset (maybe back 2 weeks) as doing more reps at a lower weight for a cycle or two isn't really too big of a deal. I know it is the long haul that matters but sometimes it is hard not to push things. Properknob -- I didn't realize he had changed that part. He seems ...

Wendler 5/3/1 stalling question

So I started doing the Wendler 5/3/1 program a few months back (I think I am on my 5th cyle). For this cycle I have really struggled with the military press. During the 3 x 5 and 3 x 3 weeks I failed to get all of the reps on the final set (1 short both weeks). This week on the 5/3/1 week I got the ...

Re: Where's Doc been, and what's he been up to?

Sorry to hear about your back problems. Good that you are trying to work your way around things and not just surrendering to the couch and ice cream as so many people would do when given your diagnosis.

Re: Best covering for weight bench?

It sounds like (as usual) I am overthinking things. Thanks for the wake-up call.

Re: Where is discussion these days?

While I understand feeling like you know enough to meet your needs, I like to keep reading new stuff and trying new things. Heck I only get around to trying about 1/2 the stuff I think about trying but it still keeps my head into exercising which helps me keep my body doing it. I wish this site were...

Best covering for weight bench?

This is a long shot but . . . I just bought a rack and now I need a bench. I plan to build something. I plan to cover the top in upholstery foam and then ??? My first thought is just to use vinyl but I thought I would ask here in case there is a better covering I should look use. The idea of somethi...

Back squat vs Front squat 85% ratio

Per an article by Christian Thibaudeau at T-Nation entitled "Know your Ratios" (I'm not allowed to post links yet) the front squat should be 85% of the back squat. Does that sound right to people here? I am trying to determine if that may be a weakness in my squat. I'd also be curious if people have...

Re: Another exercise plan question

The one thing I have learned in the past few years is that i need to set short and long term goals to keep motivated.

Been making fairly consistent small gains for the last year, I hope to keep it moving that way. This website has been helpful beyond words.

thanks again,

J.

Re: Another exercise plan question

Stuward -- Thanks for the reply. So you would definitely keep a hamstring exercise in the mix? I'll look at the straight back version as a substitute (I really don't have an opinion on this the other one was chosen with no real experience). Ephs -- Changing the order is an easy alteration. I had tho...

Another exercise plan question

I have been coming here as a lurker for years but finally decided to register to ask about the new program I am planning to start. As some background I have done some weights in the past but inconsistently. A little over a year ago I started doing them regular. About a year ago I started doing Start...
